About the Role


As a Senior Lead, Conduct & Compliance Risk in our Conduct & Compliance Risk Centre of Expertise, you’ll play a key role driving the first line of defence and engaging with Enterprise Risk Theme experts, the Institutional frontline and NFR Governance & Reporting teams managing value chain, country and divisional risk profiles. It aims to ensure effective Conduct and Regulatory risk management with a lens of the end-to-end customer journey, risk and control environment.  

 

This role leads top-down risk identification, assessments, regulatory or policy change implementation, escalates gaps where controls or frameworks are not effective, and partners with business teams to sustainably design and embed conduct and compliance controls.

What will your day look like?

You will be accountable for:

Divisional Risk Interpretation and Application  

  • Interpret and apply Group Risk policies, standards, and regulatory obligations regarding Conduct and Compliance for Institutional  
  • Lead impact assessments and implementation activities for regulatory, policy or risk standard changes 
  • Manage Regulatory Change oversight and governance for Institutional 


Divisional Risk Assessment and Integration  

  • Inform inherent and residual assessments for Conduct and Regulatory risks across Institutional value chains, countries and divisionally held risks 
  • Perform thematic reviews of Conduct and Regulatory risk exposure to identify control gaps, weaknesses, or emerging risks and support the development of remediation actions with the business 
  • Partner with business teams to design, uplift, and embed effective controls aligned to enterprise frameworks  


Governance and Escalation  

  • Prepare and contribute risk insights, analysis, and reporting to support divisional governance and decision-making 
  • Escalate material risk issues, control failures, or non-compliance matters to the Director, Conduct & Compliance Risk COE in line with escalation protocols 
  • Monitor the effectiveness of Conduct and Compliance controls and their alignment to NFR Governance frameworks 


Stakeholder Engagement  

  • Act as a trusted Line 1 risk partner to business stakeholders, supporting clear ownership and accountability for Conduct and Regulatory risk 
  • Act as key conduit to Group Risk, other COE stakeholders and peers to ensure alignment, consistency and clarity of risk expectations and requirements into business processes 
  • Connect transparently and collaboratively with inter-divisional Conduct and Compliance COEs to share best practice and ensure enterprise consistency  


Risk Culture   

  • Promote Line 1 accountability for Conduct and Compliance risk management by translating requirements into business language and applying to specific Institutional business context. Support understanding and execution of risk management responsibilities   
  • Contribute to the uplift of risk capability and culture across the division through guidance, coaching, and practical support 


Risk Types:  

  • Conduct Risks: Insider Trading / Conflict of Interest; Cartel and Other Anti-competitive Conduct; Improper Market Practices; Improper Product/ Service/Channel Design; Improper Marketing Material / Activities including Distribution; Inappropriate Sales / Lending/Advisory Practices; Mistreatment of Customers; Inadequate Complaint Handling or Remediation Processes; Non-compliance with and/or Ineffective Operation of the Whistleblower Program 
  • Compliance / Regulatory Risks: Inadequate regulatory change management; Non-compliance with licensing / certification / registration / governance requirements; Non-compliance with Financial Market Rulebooks and OTC Derivatives Regulations, Company and Banking Operations compliance; Privacy 

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Strong expertise in risk management frameworks  
  • Strong ability to apply risk expertise practically within business and operational contexts across multiple teams or processes 
  • Ability to make judgement calls that balance business and customer outcomes   
  • Strong capability in the application of risk analytics, tooling and automation 
  • Demonstrated ability to support the evolution and embedding of risk frameworks in financial services environments 
  • Demonstrated ability to translate data and insights into practical risk mitigation strategies, incl. uplift initiatives 
  • Strong understanding of controls design, assurance and testing 
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills 
  • Exposure to regulatory change implementation, risk remediation activities or assurance findings management 
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into practical business solutions 
  • Experience supporting advice to senior leaders and risk committees on operational and regulatory issues 
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive cross-functional collaboration to embed Line 1 risk ownership
  • Familiarity with the ORX NFR Taxonomy, ANZ’s enterprise risk management frameworks, and Conduct & Compliance risk standards 
  • Awareness of adjacent risk disciplines including financial crime risk, resilience risk and operational risk themes 
  • Experience working within or supporting a Centre of Excellence or similar risk capability uplift model 
  • Understanding of the Institutional Banking operating environment, products, and customer journeys 
  • Exposure to end-to-end credit processes across different segments
