About the role

Wholesale credit models are a key element in risk assessing the bank’s credit book and determining the bank's capital and provisioning. Wholesale ratings feed into the bank’s internal stress testing and ICAAP processes. Wholesale ratings are also used for pricing and risk appetite control. Group Credit Models (GCM) builds and maintain a wholesale suite of credit models (among other credit models). This role is part of the GCM team in the Group Risk Metrics and Measurement (RMM) department and focuses on the build and maintenance, including any remediation, of wholesale credit models that predict default risk, losses, and exposures. With the financial industry transforming and new cloud-based capabilities progress, this role will also support transforming modelling, including moving modelling activity into the cloud, and enhancing the team’s AI capabilities.
What will your day look like
This role is accountable for:
- Analysis and estimation of the drivers of credit risk of ANZ’s wholesale customers according to internal standards and regulatory requirements. Assessing the impact of these drivers on the capital position of ANZ. Understanding and supporting the model lifecycle end to end.
- Assessment of emerging risks on the various portfolios, geographies, and business units within ANZ.
- Building models that accurately estimate the credit risk of ANZ’s wholesale customers. Ensuring all services delivered comply with ANZ Group Risk strategy, policies, processes and standards and with external regulatory requirements.
- Engaging stakeholders and maintaining a good relationship with Internal Model Validation and Model Monitoring.
- Supporting her/his Manager in investigating new modelling techniques and required data and investigating/researching the application of latest data science developments and machine learning techniques to wholesale credit modelling.
- Presenting results in meetings and discussing results with stakeholders including model users, internal model validation, and the broader credit modelling team, i.e., retail modelling, wholesale modelling and stress test modelling.
- Growing into a subject matter expert in the development of wholesale credit models.
- Contributing to modelling team code libraries/packages on ANZ GitHub.
- Delivering high quality documentation.
What will you bring?
- Experience with analytical packages (R, Python, SQL, SAS).
- 3–5-year experience with (retail or wholesale) credit risk modelling and a good understanding of credit metrics.
- Basic understanding of finance and the commercial environment in which credit models are used.
- Strong analytical, numerical, research and problem-solving skills. Attention to details.
- Able to work under tight schedules and consistently meet objectives.
- Able to work autonomous and create momentum to the project.
- Excellent written and verbal communication. Ability to present results in meetings and discuss results with stakeholders.
- Building relationships, exercising sound judgement, delivering results.
