About the Role

 

We are looking for a detail-oriented Scheme Manager to manage ANZ’s obligations across card schemes including Visa, Mastercard, eftpos and UPI. This role is responsible for the end-to-end management of scheme releases, scheme mandates, and compliance activities, ensuring ANZ meets its regulatory and scheme obligations across issuing and acquiring businesses. You will act as a central point of coordination across technology, product, operations and external scheme partners, translating scheme requirements into actionable outcomes and ensuring delivery to a high standard. This is a critical role in ensuring ANZ maintains compliance while supporting business growth, managing risks, and enabling new scheme-driven capabilities.

What will your day look like?

 

You will:

  • Lead the analysis, impact assessment, and delivery of scheme releases (e.g. April/October releases), ensuring business and technology readiness
  • Review scheme bulletins and articles, interpret requirements, and translate them into actionable impacts across ANZ systems and processes
  • Coordinate delivery across multiple systems (e.g. authorisation, clearing, fraud, disputes, acquiring platforms) ensuring alignment and quality outcomes
  • Manage scheme compliance obligations, including tracking deliverables, risks, and progress against timelines
  • Own and manage scheme audits (e.g. AusPayNet, eftpos) and associated remediation activities
  • Respond to internal and external scheme-related queries, providing clear and accurate guidance
  • Engage with Visa, Mastercard, eftpos and other scheme partners to clarify requirements and manage relationships
  • Provide regular reporting and updates to stakeholders, including risks, issues, and delivery progress
  • Identify process gaps and drive continuous improvement in scheme management practices

What will you bring?

 

 

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:

  • A profound know-how of the payments industry, scheme compliance knowledge or previous scheme management experience
  • Solid understanding of card schemes (Visa, Mastercard, eftpos) and regulatory obligations
  • Experience in card payment systems (e.g. authorisation, clearing, disputes, fraud)
  • Background in project delivery or change management within complex environments
  • Comprehensive understanding of a range of problem-solving techniques with an ability to multi-task and be highly adaptable to change and ambiguity.
  • Risk awareness and ability to identify, assess, and mitigate compliance and operational risks
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with strong influencing and relationship building ability to ensure business and customer impacts have been fully considered.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex requirements for diverse audiences

 

Preferred Experience (Good to have)

  • Experience with scheme releases lifecycle and audit frameworks
  • Exposure to issuer and/or acquiring environments
  • Experience managing scheme waivers, exemptions, or compliance reporting
