About the Role
This role is accountable for leading the Operational Risk COE for Institutional Division’s 1LOD NFR by uplifting Risk Theme management and capabilities for the business area, driving compliance and adherence to enterprise risk management standards, monitoring and reporting on risk theme specific risks and controls end-to-end across the business area, and ensuring regulatory obligations (including APRA CPS 230 and CPS 220) are met across business units and countries.
Acting as a strategic partner within the Division, the role leads thematic uplift initiatives across the Bank’s operational risk categories (transaction processing & execution, third‑party risk, model risk, physical security, people, legal, statutory reporting & tax, change execution). It champions risk culture, simplifies governance, and ensures proactive risk identification through data-driven insights.
The role also brings outside-in perspectives from Group Risk Theme Officers and the broader industry best practice to accelerate capability uplift and resilience across critical operations.

What will your day look like?

Translate and apply the Group Risk Appetite Statement and policies within the division, providing expert guidance on Operational Risk obligations, applicability, and materiality.

Lead top-down risk identification and assessment across Operational Risk themes, leveraging analytics and automation to surface indicators, trends, and emerging risks.

Establish robust approaches for identifying material service providers, maintaining registers, due diligence, formal agreements, monitoring, reporting and orderly exit planning.

Oversee impact assessments and change delivery for regulatory and policy updates, partnering with the business to drive process improvements, control uplift, and remediation of high-risk activities.

Manage governance and escalation processes, raising issues where frameworks or practices are not effectively supporting risk management.

Collaborate with Group Risk, Line 2, and divisional peers to enable consistent, end-to-end Operational Risk management across boundaries.

Promote a strong Line 1 accountability culture, ensuring leaders understand and execute their risk and control testing responsibilities.

Lead and develop a team of specialists, setting clear expectations and building capability to deliver sustained uplift in risk management.
What will you bring?
- Deep expertise in risk management frameworks and regulatory obligations for Operational Risk NFR themes.
- Institutional banking experience.
- Strong ability to drive practical application of risk expertise into a business context, including being able to simply communicate the complex.
- Deep expertise in risk analytics, tooling and automation.
- Proven ability to evolve and embed risk frameworks in financial services environments.
- Proven ability to translate data and insights into practical risk mitigation strategies, incl. uplift initiatives.
- Deep understanding of controls design, assurance and testing.
- Proven ability to think strategically and take pragmatic approaches to accelerate effective and efficient execution of initiatives.
- Experience in advising senior leaders and risk committees on operational and regulatory issues.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to lead and develop high-performing teams through change and transformation.
