About the Role
The Manager, Thematic Reviews supports the Senior Manager Enterprise Thematic Reviews in delivering independent, high quality second line insights across risk themes, customer impacts, divisions, products and technologies. The role is responsible for leading review engagements, connecting internal risk information with market and industry intelligence identifying systemic weaknesses, risk concentrations, inconsistent practices and opportunities for enterprise action.
The role plays a critical part in delivering a forward looking, enterprise wide view of common and emerging risk themes, while partnering closely with stakeholders to uplift risk outcomes and strengthen accountability.

What will your day look like?
- Design and lead execution of hypothesis led thematic reviews across business areas, establishing clear scope, review questions, evidence requirements and analytical approach
- Analyse complex quantitative & qualitative analysis to identify systemic themes/patterns, common drivers, emerging risks and underlying root causes
- Form and communicate clear, evidence-based Line 2 risk insights and opinions, including practical recommendations for strengthening risk management practices and the control environment
- Oversee resulting actions, including evidence standards, reporting consistency, appropriate escalation and monitoring of agreed enterprise-level responses.
- Engage with senior stakeholders and provide constructive insights, navigate contested findings and maintain independence under pressure
- Build effective working relationships with first line, second line, Compliance, Internal Audit and other risk partners
- Provide day to day leadership, coaching and technical guidance to team members.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of Thematic Review methodologies, tools and practices.
- Role model ANZ values and behaviours, fostering a culture of integrity, collaboration and continuous improvement.
What will you bring?
- Demonstrated 7-10 years experience within the Three Lines of defence in financial services.
- Strong understanding of risk management, including risk identification, assessment, treatment, monitoring and reporting.
- Ability to apply critical thinking to analyse complex information across multiple business areas or themes, identify common root causes and form clear, risk based conclusions and recommendations.
- Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and providing constructive challenge, navigating contested findings and maintaining independence under pressure
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with experience translating complex analysis into concise insights.
