About the Role

Reporting to the Team Leader, MF Core Systems team, the role provides senior technical consultation supporting the provision, availability and performance of IMS databases within IMS subsystems.

The incumbent must have an extensive knowledge of IMS database usage, including design and tuning of Full Function & Fast Path databases, backup &recovery processes,  system architecture and design. This includes the ability to provide expert technical problem diagnosis and resolution. This senior position requires the incumbent possess strong mentoring skills to support and direct more junior team members.

The role requires constant liaison with other technical support areas including PSSC (Production Services Support Centre) to provide effective service to customers. There is a further requirement to provide 24X7 on call Production support on a rostered basis.

What will your day look like?

Leadership

• Provide technical leadership on all aspects of IMS database usage, performance and tuning and monitoring to other teams including other areas of Mainframe Technologies, Enterprise Storage and IT application support and development teams.
•  Manage, direct and implement new functionality of IMS databases in partnership with application development teams and customers.
• Provide direction and input into identifying and implementing improvements to maximise stability, reduce costs and improve service levels and product usage.

Customer & Service

• Effective liaison across technical teams and application development teams to plan and deliver solutions and services using IMS databases.
• Provide guidance and support to Business & Technical Managers ensuring key platform and service issues and concerns are dealt with.
• Deliver effective communication and support to mainframe customers and IT staff on efficient use of IMS databases within HOGAN and non-Hogan environments.
• Ensure high level of stability and performance is maintained and enhanced

Financial Management

• Identify and action initiatives to lower costs through quality and productivity improvements.

Technology/Solutions

• Mainframe performance and tuning to ensure efficient use of IMS databases in IMS subsystems.
• Responsible for day-to-day functions relating to resolution of performance issues, availability and throughput of Production environments using IMS databases.
• Ensure effective database technologies are in place to allow future development and exploitation of high availability solutions.
• Provide input into technology project resource estimations

Strategy

• Assist in the development of both strategic and tactical plans for the Mainframe platform in line with ANZ operational and strategic expectations
• Contribute to overall mainframe strategy by understanding key IT objectives and maintaining sound knowledge of mainframe hardware, automation, network and IT industry trends.

Essential Skills

• High level of skill in IMS database administration including availability, capacity planning, performance tuning, recovery, security and data integrity.
• Expert knowledge of Full Function & Fast Path components of IMS
• A solid understanding of IBM’s z/OS operating system.
• Experience with IBM & BMC IMS database utilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively across organisational boundaries and build good working relationships with customers, peers, staff, vendors.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proven Customer Focus and advocate of the business needs.
• Strong oral & written communication skills, enabling easy interaction at many levels within ANZ.
• Understanding of the business & proven ability to translate business requirements into high-quality cost-effective solutions
• Proven record in implementing and supporting technology services and driving change to effect substantial business value improvements.
• Strong organisational and commercial acumen, pragmatic, business approach to technological challenges.
  
  

Desired Skills

• IMS database administration in HOGAN environments.
• Experience with job scheduling tools – preferably Control/M
• Working knowledge of end-to-end technology services including understanding of banking applications, other platforms, network connectivity, communications protocols and data storage technologies.
