Then working as part of ANZ’s Infrastructure and Cloud Services team, in the Enterprise Compute - Unix area may be the thing for you.

We use a number of Unix OS’s and a broad range of supporting technologies, both On Prem and in the Cloud. Working as part of this team, you will have the opportunity to see and use many platforms, management toolsets, automation products and more. This is a mixed mode role, which participates in the operational aspects of the business, though is very much targeted towards automation, desired state configuration (puppet, CI/CD tooling etc), and continuing ANZ’s ongoing journey from the legacy ways of managing and running Unix into the future. We also work across multiple platforms, including Cloud, X64, Power and SPARC, use multiple hypervisors, both in our own extensive datacentres, as well as growing into Cloud in services such as those provided by AWS (both native and VMC) and Google.

As an Engineer, you will deliver best in class hybrid hosting environments, connectivity and data services along with the platform level support our business units need. You will provide an enterprise grade compute and hosting service at speed that is resilient, secure, cost effective, flexible and strives to deliver autonomy for business change.

What will your day look like

  • You will participate in the design, build, testing and support integration of solutions across Unix platforms working closely with other squad members and teams to ensure customer outcomes. We strive for continual innovation in what we deliver and how we work
  • Configuring Automation and writing desired state configuration to minimise daily operational issues
  • Large scale config management – fleet rather than server based management
  • Work alongside our x86 Hypervisor teams around migrations from legacy hypervisors to current hosting environments
  • Participation in the support of the business during operational incidents and to assist with business requests
  • Ongoing improvement of both existing and new platforms
  • Rostered on-call support and change execution where required (Support coverage is Australian hours only)

What will you bring?


  • Broad exposure to Unix in general and expert in Redhat Linux (ideally RHEL 7/8)
  • Working knowledge of Red Hat Satellite 6.x
  • Strong Unix Scripting with at least shell, and some knowledge of Ruby and/or python advantageous
  • Good Puppet knowledge – ability to write puppet classes a huge advantage
  • Knowledge of Solaris and AIX highly advantageous
  • Good knowledge of Git based revision control
  • Experience with CICD Pipelines
  • Experience with deployments, e.g. kickstart (Linux), Automated Installer (Solaris), NIM (AIX) advantageous
  • Knowledge of Pipeline based AWS and GCP cloud deployments and ongoing management advantageous
  • Knowledge of HP x86 hardware and VMWare vSphere / VCF / VMC advantageous (More VM based than platform)
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking and perhaps some knowledge of IPv6, Vlans, VRF’s and NST-T is advantageous
  • Knowledge of OBM (Microfocus Operations Bridge Manager) advantageous, not mandatory
  • Knowledge of Active Directory advantageous, as is knowledge of Unix integration with AD (eg: Centrify)
