About the Role

As Legal Director - Financial Crime within Regulatory Legal, you will lead ANZ’s legal strategy in relation to its anti-money laundering, sanctions and anti-bribery and corruption obligations.

What will your day look like?

As Legal Director - Financial Crime, you are accountable for:

  • Providing strategic, proactive, practical and commercially relevant legal advice to ANZ on its anti-money laundering, sanctions and anti-bribery and corruption obligations, working with a range of internal stakeholders.
  • Building and maintaining trusted working relationships with regulators, Financial Crime, first line business units, other legal teams and external counsel.
  • Managing legal resourcing, external legal spend and external lawyer performance to deliver timely, cost-effective and high-quality legal services.
  • Recruiting, motivating, developing and managing direct reports to support quality output, team cohesion and effective delivery.
  • Escalating significant matters where required, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting to the General Counsel, Regulatory and Group General Counsel where relevant.

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Strong experience in advising on financial crime legal and regulatory obligations in financial services.
  • Ability to identify commercial, practical and strategic legal solutions in complex and time-sensitive matters.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to work effectively with teams across ANZ.
  • Ability to work under pressure and within tight timeframes while maintaining quality, judgement and risk discipline.

In addition, you will have a legal qualification and current practising certificate, or eligibility to practise law in the relevant jurisdiction, as well as post-qualification experience appropriate to a senior leadership role.
