Lead Technical Business Analyst, Melbourne

Req ID:  108853
Department:  AR Deposits & Payments Product Management
Division:  Australia Retail
Location:  Melbourne

About Us

At ANZ, we're shaping a world where people and communities thrive, driven by a common goal: to improve the financial wellbeing and sustainability of our millions of customers.

About the Role

As a Lead Technical Business Analyst in Deposits & Payments, you will be instrumental in strengthening ANZ’s enterprise document management strategy - uplifting capability, improving future‑state processes, and enhancing how the bank manages and surfaces critical documents. As part of this broader objective, you will also play a critical role in the Suncorp Migration program by driving end‑to‑end delivery, shaping the implementation approach, preparing impacted teams, and ensuring migrated Suncorp documents are seamlessly accessible for customers and staff from Day 1.

You will bring strong Business and Technical Analysis capability - capturing, interpreting, and translating business and technical requirements and process flows, to guide and support the development, migration and the associated customer and staff experience. You will also contribute PMO expertise across project planning, releases, technology coordination, reporting, and leadership.

Role Type: 12-Month Fixed-term Contract
Role Location:
L5A/833 Collins Street, Docklands
Work Hours:
Full time

What will your day look like?

  • Leading and owning the Business Analysis pillar by being the primary Business Analyst - accountable for hands-on business and technical analysis, setting clear objectives and priorities, coordinating with key stakeholders, providing direction and support to the team’s analysis activities, and ensuring delivery of the required outcomes for the initiative.
  • Working in a team where you will use your experience to collaborate with ANZ businesses, technology teams, and vendors to perform business, technical, and systems analysis, eliciting and defining detailed requirements, while also flexing into other workstreams as needed for support (e.g. Testing).
  • Using a range of elicitation and documentation techniques (e.g. process analysis and modelling, use cases, user stories, acceptance criteria, interface specifications, etc.) to produce business and technical requirements for build, document current and future state across business and technology environments, and conduct impact, risk, and scope assessments, including defining and protecting scope throughout delivery.
  • Creating detailed process flows and swimlane diagrams to represent key insights and clear experience expectations for customers and staff, with the goal of identifying opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and streamline workflows.
  • Co-ordinating with the project team, cross-functional teams and our vendors to ensure timely and successful delivery.
  • Sound understanding of the technology landscape, with the ability to drive solution architecture discussions, make informed decisions, and bring technical clarity to the team.
  • Conducting workshops with a wide range of business and technology stakeholders to ensure impacts are understood, communicated, and incorporated into delivery, applying strong problem‑solving and analytical skills to support effective execution of major change, while identifying technology constraints and dependencies.
  • Supporting the project’s risk management workstreams by liaising widely across the bank to ensure the initiative meets internal project delivery and risk requirements, whilst maintaining a high level of hygiene with documentation.

What will you bring?

  • A can-do attitude and willingness to ‘roll up your sleeves’ with the team to get delivery across the line in a fast-paced VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) project environment, flexing consistently between your SME capabilities and team priorities that require swarming.
  • You will be experienced in eliciting, documenting and managing detailed requirements, including producing clear and actionable technical specifications (e.g. interface specifications, data mappings, API requirements). You will also conduct analytical activities such as process modelling, gap analysis and systems analysis, using a wide range of elicitation and documentation techniques.
  • Proven ability to operate as the primary, hands‑on Business Analyst, with prior leadership experience valued for helping coordinate and influence matrixed resources. This role requires someone who leads by doing - shaping deliverables, providing practical guidance, and helping the team pivot quickly as priorities evolve.
  • Strong functional experience or expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: Business/Technical/Systems Analysis, Project Management, Change Management, Risk Management, Testing and/or Solution Architecture.
  • Exceptional stakeholder‑management skills and an adaptable working style are must‑haves, as the role requires engaging effectively with Business Owners across multiple Business Units, Leadership Teams, other initiatives, technology teams, and vendors.
  • Experience in large-scale technology migration projects. Strong understanding of technology projects, technical solution architecture and technical requirements documentation will be highly regarded.
  • You will have expert documentation, facilitation, analysis and management skills to help manage the initiative’s hygiene and maintain the integrity of what the team will deliver (e.g. detailed Acceptance Criteria).
  • Having a risk lens on at all times to ensure sustainable solutions are identified and explored to protect customers, stakeholders, and the bank.
  • You are experienced in conflict management and have complex problem-solving skills to handle team or stakeholder issues and can manage unexpected challenges effectively.
  • You have a demonstrable record of delivering on time with different project delivery methodologies (Agile and Waterfall) and internal governance frameworks.
