About the Role

As the Lead Identity Architect within our Architecture & Engineering domain, you are accountable for defining and evolving the end-to-end identity architecture, strategy, and roadmap across the enterprise. This spans human, non-human (machine/workload), agentic, and third-party identities, ensuring a cohesive and future-ready identity ecosystem.

You will lead the design and uplift of core identity capabilities including identity lifecycle management, authentication (including multi-factor), privileged access management, and identity-driven secure access. Your focus will be to continuously improve security, resilience, and user experience across our global network, cloud, data platforms, SaaS, and private applications, all while aligning to regulatory obligations and industry best practices.

You will succeed by establishing a trusted technical advisor relationship for our Tech Area Lead for Identity & Access Management, our Domain Lead for Digital Employee Experience, our Domain Lead for Engineering, as well as trusted peer relationships with the Technology Area Leads for Cloud Platforms, Enterprise Data Analytics, Data Management, Data Security and other technology function domain leads as needed. You’ll draw on your deep and broad technical expertise, coupled with your ability to engage commercially, translating seamlessly between business strategy, architecture and requirements, and technical solutions.

What will your day look like?

The role is accountable for:

  • Define target-state architectures, principles, standards and reference patterns to establish architecture guard rails for identity solutions
  • Own and maintain the identity architecture roadmap, aligning to enterprise strategy, risk posture, and major programs
  • Drive adoption of modern identity principles such as Zero Trust, zero standing privilege (ZSP), and strong authentication
  • Partner closely with security, platform, and product teams to embed identity capabilities into all technology solutions
  • Provide architectural oversight and guidance to squads, enabling safe, scalable, and reusable implementations
  • Evaluate technologies and vendors, shaping strategic investment decisions and rationalising the identity landscape
  • Ensure identity services are designed for high assurance, auditability, and operational resilience
  • Completing Architecture Assessments with Architecture Decisions to address business needs / problems, while considering strategic enterprise alignment
  • Creation of Architecture Overview (High Level Design with Architecture Visualisation) to outline the technology solution to solve the business needs / problems
  • Socialise and obtain approvals for architecture solutions from the relevant governance forums and stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain the architecture book of work for identity and participate in Tribe Planning for solution delivery
  • Provide consulting services to business and technology stakeholders

What will you bring?

  • Influencing and aligning stakeholders across architecture, engineering, security, and risk
  • Establishing and enforcing identity standards, controls, and guardrails
  • Supporting regulatory compliance (e.g. CPS 234) and audit readiness
  • Mentoring architects and engineers, building enterprise-wide identity capability
  • Evaluating and presenting solution options to meet business needs
  • Designed a Solution/Infrastructure Architecture to realise customer outcomes.
  • Defined and /or supported the use of architectural guardrails, standards, and patterns.
  • Commercial & Business Acumen for key strategic planning & annual investment decisions
  • Architecture Skills - Key ability to translate business requirements to technology requirements
  • A breadth of technology expertise across - Security, Identity, Cloud (AWS and GCP), Infrastructure, Network, Integration, Automation
  • Strategy Development - Creating a purpose, mission, and/or plan to achieve long term goals and objectives. This might include strategy relating to customers, roadmaps, workforce, segments, brand etc.
  • Solution Design - Designing technical and non-technical solutions to resolve a problem or meet a customer need
  • Planning & Prioritisation - Planning and prioritising what needs to be done (including people, process, and technology implications) to deliver upon customer/user needs and strategic priorities. This includes identifying, planning for, tracking and resolving dependencies
  • Deep technology area knowledge and systems expertise in;
    • Identity lifecycle management – end to end
    • Entra ID, Azure and ADFS related technologies including enterprise SSO
    • Ping Federate, AWS, GCP and other identity providers
    • FIDO2, SAML, OIDC, SCIM and modern identity-related protocols
    • Secrets management including enterprise vault technologies
    • CA and PKI including Network access via 802.1x.
    • Just In Time and Zero Standing Privilege (JIT, ZSP) provisioning
    • Persona development across the full spectrum of human to non-human, machine, workload, container
    • Best practices in privileged access management, tiered PAM, machine to machine trust, segmentation etc.
