About Us

At ANZ, we're shaping a world where people and communities thrive, driven by a common goal: to improve the financial wellbeing and sustainability of our millions of customers.

ANZ Internal Audit’s 2030 ambition is to be the leading audit function and the Bank’s trusted independent voice. We contribute to ANZ’s Group 2030 Strategy through providing the strength and perspective required for ANZ to lead the industry in trust, safety and risk management, adhering to the highest standards of non-financial risk management

About the Role

The Lead – Audit Workforce Planning is responsible for providing central coordination, governance and oversight of Internal Audit workforce planning, resourcing and scheduling to support effective delivery of the approved audit plan, issue verification activities and Internal Audit objectives.

The role maintains authoritative visibility over Internal Audit’s workforce establishment, capacity, utilisation and delivery progress, enabling proactive planning, disciplined execution and timely escalation of resourcing or delivery risks. It supports transparent decision making by providing a single, trusted view of audit staffing, vacancies, recruitment progress and capacity constraints. Through strong operating discipline, the role enables efficient deployment of audit resources across divisions and portfolios, including cross divisional and Group audits, and supports adherence to agreed schedules, resourcing plans and governance expectations.

Working within the Audit Operations & Quality (AOQ) portfolio, the role contributes to operational resilience by supporting continuity of performance, governance and risk activities during periods of peak demand, absence or change.

Role Type: Permanent

Role Location: Brisbane, Melbourne

Work Hours: Full-time

What will your day look like?

As the Lead – Audit Workforce Planning, you will be accountable for:

  • Establish and maintain a centralised, function-wide view of workforce capacity, demand and utilisation across audits, issue verification and other planned assurance activity.
  • Coordinate planning and scheduling of audits and issue verification activity across divisions and portfolios, ensuring work is appropriately staffed and sequenced in line with the approved Internal Audit plan and agreed priorities.
  • Support cross-divisional and Group audits by coordinating resource allocation across teams, managing interdependencies and resolving resourcing conflicts.
  • Monitor delivery progress against agreed schedules, staffing plans and capacity assumptions, identifying emerging risks, bottlenecks, overruns and underutilisation.
  • Provide challenge, insight and escalation to Internal Audit leadership and Audit Directors where delivery is not progressing in line with agreed plans, including transparency over delivery slippage, rescheduling and runovers.
  • Coordinate and track changes to the Internal Audit plan, including additions, deferrals, substitutions and other changes with resourcing or capacity implications.
  • Assess and communicate the resourcing, capacity and delivery impacts of proposed audit plan changes, maintaining clear reporting and visibility of material plan deviations and delivery risks.
  • Maintain authoritative visibility of Internal Audit’s approved workforce establishment, including approved FTE, role types, grades, vacancies and recruitment progress.
  • Coordinate and reconcile workforce data across planning, Talent & Culture systems and leadership reporting, identifying discrepancies, deployment constraints and impacts on audit delivery capacity.
  • Support governance and consistency of Internal Audit position descriptions and workforce data, identifying structural workforce issues (e.g. persistent vacancies, data integrity gaps, misalignment between approved and actual roles) and escalating implications for audit plan delivery and operating discipline.

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you’ll ideally bring the following:

  • Workforce planning and resource management expertise: Experience in workforce planning, resourcing, scheduling or capacity management within a complex, multi-portfolio environment, with the ability to maintain visibility across demand, supply and utilisation.
  • Delivery oversight and operating discipline: Strong capability in monitoring delivery against plans, identifying resourcing or scheduling risks, and supporting operating discipline through challenge, escalation and transparent reporting.
  • Stakeholder engagement and influence: Proven ability to engage effectively with senior leaders and technical specialists, constructively challenging delivery assumptions, negotiating priorities and resolving resourcing conflicts.
  • Analytical and data-driven decision making: Strong analytical capability, including the ability to interpret workforce, utilisation and delivery data, identify trends and constraints, and translate insights into clear recommendations.
  • Governance and risk awareness: Sound understanding of governance expectations, risk management principles and assurance environments, with the ability to operate credibly within a regulated environment.
  • Execution through ambiguity: Ability to operate effectively where systems, data or processes are imperfect, bringing structure, discipline and pragmatism to improve transparency and outcomes.
  • Good to have: Experience within Internal Audit, risk, compliance or assurance environments; maintaining workforce establishment visibility; supporting organisational change and uplift activity; exposure to project management, workforce planning, scheduling or audit management systems; or preparing workforce or delivery insights for senior governance forums.
  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualification and/or postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline such as accounting, audit, operational risk, compliance or related fields.
