About the Role

Working under the supervision of the Head of External Communication, the Journalist will proactively develop high impact, engaging content for mostly external audiences to support ANZ’s strategic agenda. The role will be critical in helping execute the external communications strategy for key channels including bluenotes, ANZ Newsroom, and corporate social media, while working closely with others across the function to identify and execute new story ideas that increase brand awareness, drive traffic and optimise and grow ANZ’s corporate reputation. This may include creating or sourcing original content, repurposing and tailoring existing ANZ content, or curating content from other writers within and outside of ANZ. You'll be a strong communicator and content creator, producing high-quality written and multimedia content to tight deadlines and working seamlessly with external communications colleagues as part of an integrated team.

What will your day look like?

As a Journalist you are accountable for:

 

  • Delivering engaging, high-quality written and multimedia content as part of the Bank’s external communications strategy for bluenotes, ANZ Newsroom and corporate social media channels, aligned with ANZ’s strategic objectives and supporting our reputation.
  • Working collaboratively with external communications colleagues (Public Relations, Media Relations, social media and content) to deliver strategic and integrated content and external communications materials.
  • Working closely with the broader Communications and Public Affairs function, marketing, brand and other business areas across the bank as needed to ensure content opportunities are captured, leveraged and then repurposed across relevant channels
  • Work collaboratively to support consistent delivery of content and share best practice content expertise and experience.
  • Build and develop strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure stories across the bank are captured and told in a compelling way for our target audiences
  • Act on identified risks and issues by supporting development of mitigations and plans to address them, to minimise negative impacts to ANZ's business or reputation.
  • Work closely with colleagues to distribute content across external and internal channels.
  • Capture data and conduct regular measurement and analysis of content performance to support future content strategy decisions

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

Must have:

  • Excellent skills in writing, interviewing, including to a tight deadline.
  • Excellent skills in producing multimedia content.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships across teams in large organisations.
  • Excellent news sense and able to explain to stakeholders what makes a good story, and what doesn’t
  • Well organised and able to deliver outcomes within set timeframes and to agreed standards, including while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Adept at simplifying complex strategies and concepts, translating them in a way that makes them accessible to broader internal audiences.
  • Confident and well versed in the fundamentals of writing and editing across digital and social media.
  • Ability to conceptualise and plan including compelling visual content including text, video, infographics, visual displays.
  • Ability to build relationships at all levels and comfortable challenging the status quo.
  • Strong on maintaining situational awareness, with an ability to look ahead for obstacles and opportunities, and curiosity about new information and diverse perspectives.
  • Skilled at prioritisation and ability to make effective trade-off decisions, while balancing risks and opportunities, calm under pressure.

 

Good to have:

  • Strong collaboration and people skills, with the ability to put the audience front of mind
  • Flexibility and adaptability - able to respond to constantly changing trends
  • Curiosity - staying up to date with the latest developments in content and experimenting with tools such as AI/Co-pilot
  • Project management skills
  • Good technical skills, including proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Understanding of financial services
