Role Purpose

As part of the Extended Commercial leadership team, the Head of First Nations Business Banking will lead ANZ’s efforts to bank and grow the First Nations economy. 

 

This role will also drive business development through the creation of new relationships and partnerships nationally with First Nations businesses, Corporations, Chambers of Commerce and communities. 

 

This role will be supported by the Commercial division and First Nations Strategy team, and work with senior leaders to improve ANZ’s market presence, understanding of the First Nations economy, and offerings for First Nations entrepreneurs looking to start, run and grow their businesses.
 

What will your day look like?

This role is accountable for: 

 

  • Leadership and delivery of the Commercial First Nations Strategy, including deepening ANZ’s understanding of the First Nations economy, and attracting and engaging First Nations Commercial customers
  • Working closely with Commercial and other senior leaders to ensure strategic alignment and collaboration to deliver against First Nations, Commercial and other relevant ANZ Strategies
  • Introducing, building and fostering strong relationships nationally with First Nations businesses, industry and community leaders
  • Creating and executing business development plans to drive growth in identified key First Nations customer segments
  • Driving the financial performance of ANZ’s First Nations Business Banking propositions nationally, including through customer acquisition and engagement
  • Working in tandem with Commercial Distribution leaders to recruit and lead a cohesive First Nations Commercial Banking team
  • Coaching bankers, and sharing best practice with respect to First Nations customer engagement and servicing activities
  • Leading and contributing to thought leadership regarding the First Nations economy, and activating ANZ as a trusted adviser to First Nations businesses, such as by commissioning research and contributing to relevant industry forums
  • Increasing awareness within the Commercial division of the First Nations economy; and the unique opportunities and barriers facing First Nations businesses
  • Growing ANZ’s positive reputation and presence in the First Nations business sector and community, by adding value and delivering strong customer experience

What will you bring?


To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

 

  • Strong understanding of the First Nations Economy, including the drivers and opportunities, barriers to growth, market competition, industry composition and trends
  • Established networks and connections to First Nations business, economic institutions and related organisations nationally
  • Experience in business development, including within existing and new markets
  • Demonstrated team leadership including building teams; effective people leadership (including non-direct reports) and fostering an inclusive, supportive and high-performing culture
  • Strong communication skills including interpersonal, written and presentation skills
  • Excellent relationship building and partnership management, including with First Nations and non-First Nations people and organisations
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, and influence towards a common goal
  • Commercial acumen and the ability to take a big picture view of the organisation, the market, external and internal pressures and trends and identify actions or strategies to drive efficiency and create long-term value
  • FSR Tier 2 Certificate (note: this is not a requirement and can be obtained upon commencement)
  • Knowledge of banking (especially Commercial banking) will also be well regarded.
