About the Role

As a Financial Crime Risk Assessment Lead in our Group Compliance tribe, you’ll play a key role in helping to ensure that ANZ’s approach to assessing and managing financial crime risk adapts to the evolving threats and regulatory landscape. This role is a specialist position responsible for ANZ’s compliance regarding Financial Crime around AML/CTF Sanctions, Bribery, Corruption & Fraud. The role is responsible for creating and embedding frameworks, procedures and controls to prevent money launderers, terrorists and sanctioned individuals and entities from conducting criminal activity using our products and services.
 
Working within ANZ’s Financial Crime Governance, Risk Coverage and Insights team (RCI) you will be part of a team that helps ANZ achieve effective and innovative financial crime risk mitigation by supporting appropriate enterprise-wide understanding of risk and control environment and risk response approach & design that commensurate with the level of financial crime risks that ANZ faces.

 

You will be part of RCI team responsible on the following:

• Develop and maintain RCI framework and methodology (including related process and procedures). This includes:
• Risk Assessment framework and methodology
• Develop a risk-based plan to perform risk assessment reviews inline with ANZ priorities.
• Perform, or support business perform, risk assessments of relevant products, channels and business units.
• Identify, understand, and assess emerging and existing risks as a cause to financial crime risks
• Provide SME advisory to financial crime stakeholders and NFR community on holistic risk articulation and detection controls to maintain/enhance risk coverage.
• Supporting ongoing governance through provision of risk theme insights from the delivery of our value chain activities, to support decision making, informing the optimal level of risk and control coverage and risk appetites.
• Ensure Monitoring & Screening detection models are designed effectively and fit-for-purpose (based on performance and operational effectiveness) to address the risks and threats that ANZ faces.
• Support other RCI functions in strategic alignment opportunities and joint deliveries.

What will your day look like?

In this role, you will be accountable for:

• Support the RCI lead in developing the Risk Assessment Framework and methodology, in line with ANZ Policy & Standard, to ensure end-to-end risk-based execution of risk assessment reviews.
• Support the RCI lead in the development of a risk-based plan to perform risk assessment inline with ANZ priorities.
• Perform, or support business perform, risk assessments of relevant products, channels and business units, including providing SME advisory and recommendations to control gaps or weaknesses where required.
• Undertake thematic risk reviews and adhoc assessments/reviews using a combination of quantitative data analysis and qualitative reviews, using upstream sources e.g., internal, and external intelligence, risk assessments, and feedback loop e.g., audit outcomes and other sources.
• Provide guidance and support to junior members within the RCI team, supporting them to deliver and execute against the RCI’s plan
• Provide and deliver training to team members (ongoing/new) to ensure they are kept up to speed on Policy requirements with respect to risk assessment.
• Ensure Monitoring & Screening detection models are designed effectively and fit-for-purpose (based on performance and operational effectiveness) to address the risks and threats that ANZ faces.
• Ensure compliance with relevant internal and external compliance standards.
• Provide direction and guidance to senior leaders on the interpretation and implementation of the financial crime framework and risk assessment insights.
• Build collaborative relationships and actively manage key internal and external stakeholders to enable business and compliance objectives to be achieved.
• Further the strategic integration opportunities across RCI to align service offerings and more effectively and efficiently deliver to plan.
• Contribute to RCI team culture to ensure effective and collaborative working relationships.
• Ensure ANZ's core values are always maintained in dealing with staff, colleagues, and customers.
• Meet relevant FCP requirements globally

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

• 5+ years’ Financial Crime or Risk experience, with a detailed understanding of Monitoring & Screening, Risk Assessment and Data Governance (i.e., what good looks like)
• Proficient in conducting financial crime risk assessments within banking industry.
• Extensive data analysis skills and data mining aptitude, with strong understanding and use of data tools and coding language such as Excel VBA, SAS, R/RShiny, SQL, Python, Tableau and Qliksense.
• Ability to apply design thinking methodologies and proven ability to drive innovative control solutions to address ML/TF risks effectively. 
• Extensive business writing and storyboarding skills including well-structured, clear, and concise deliverables and proven ability to translate key risk theme insights to inform key stakeholders to make decisions relating to controls. 
• Familiarity with agile methodologies
• Strong understanding of enterprise-wide financial crime risks, including specific products and channel risks e.g., Trade, Digital, Correspondent Banking, Markets etc.
• Financial Crime Industry qualification such as CAMS certification is an advantage
• Data Analytics related certification such as SAS, AWS, Google Analytics etc. is desirable
• Strong leadership skills and ability to build strong collaboration and networks both internally and externally.
• Sound team management skills to support effective and efficient execution of plan
• Extensive communication skills and ability to develop effective working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
