About the Role

The Control Testing Team is a first line risk team that forms part of Non-Financial Risk business in the Business & Private Bank division. The team is responsible for supporting strong control management practices across the Business & Private Bank division and provides independent assurance to Line 1A on whether a control is designed and operating effectively. 

This role sits within the Business & Private Bank (B&PB) Division Controls Testing Team focusing on delivering quality and sustainable control testing activities and uplift across business processes. The role is key in helping manage the quality of Control Self-Assessments within the Division.

What will your day look like?

What you'll be doing:

•    Managing and delivering the Quality Assurance of Control Self-Assessments (CSA) plan for Business & Private Bank control population in line with the NFR Framework requirements.
•    Reporting on the progress of the Quality Assurance plan to key stakeholders.
•    Understanding and applying the Quality Assurance of CSA framework requirements, acting as a subject matter expert for the Division. 
•    Identifying control uplift, rationalisation and improvement opportunities to strengthen the control landscape.
•    Identifying improvements in underlying control testing processes for productivity and efficiency gains without compromising quality.
•    Managing issue escalation timely, effectively and efficiently.
•    Building strong and influential relationships with key stakeholders.
•    Supporting the implementation and operation of the NFR Framework.
•    Managing the quality assurance of Control Self-Assessments, from planning to sampling to executing and reporting progress, ensuring the quality assurance plan is completed compliantly, efficiently and effectively in line with the current NFR Framework requirements. 
•    Complete independent control testing where required, performing control design and operating effectiveness assessments for all control types; manual, automated, IT-dependent or hybrid.
•    Identify where gaps exist in the control environment and provide recommendations to Control Owners to uplift and strengthen the business.
•    As part of the broader Controls Testing team, this role will work with the Lead, Controls Automation to use AI & automation tools to design, implement and improve the overall control environment within the Division.  

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

•    Strong knowledge of control testing methodologies and prior experience in performing control effectiveness assessment / testing across all control types (manual, IT dependent, automated, hybrid).
•    Applied understanding of risk management frameworks. This includes how risks, obligations and controls work to effectively manage non-financial risk within the bank’s business processes. 
•    Experienced user of risk systems, reporting and other tools required to support the business managing non-financial risk.
•    Effective communication to translate technical insights into actionable recommendations.
•    High attention to detail with the ability to synthesise the required information while adhering to a deadline driven environment.
•    Strong attention to governance, documentation, and evidence standards to support audit-ready testing artefacts.
•    Continuous improvement and growth mindset for the business, team and individual self. 
•    Experience in quality assurance programs.
•    Experience enhancing control testing coverage, efficiency, or automation through AI testing approaches or use of data.
•    Proficient in the use of risk management tools and platforms to support the effective management of non-financial risks, including ServiceNow and NFR Hub.
•    Experience in utilising analytics, reporting tools and dashboards to generate insights, monitor performance and support informed decision making. 
•    Knowledge of emerging trends in operational or non-financial risk.
•    Tertiary qualifications in business, risk, finance, IT, or related fields are highly regarded.
•    Desirable: Professional certifications in risk management, audit, compliance or data analytics.
