At ANZ our purpose is to shape a world where people and communities thrive and to achieve this, we need a talented a Capability Area Lead (CAL) to join our Enterprise Compute Tribe.  Enterprise Compute focuses on the predictable, stable and efficient running of ANZ technology platforms and systems that support core systems and many other critical applications that ANZ depends on for its day to day operation. 

We are continuously improving our platforms, systems & patterns to support the business needs as required.  Our remit includes delivering and operating secure platforms based on Mainframe, Nonstop, Unix, iSeries as well as providing Storage and backup services, Unix and Storage Build services and Enterprise Database capability, both On-Prem and increasingly in the Cloud, leveraging commonalities and proving a consistent approach to security, controls and governance.  

The Technology Area is also responsible for maintaining tooling and automation to ease management of the estate, as well as a Site Reliability approach to ensure that we operate the platform with the expected efficiency and availability to support the business needs. 

Enterprise Compute have a number of major, transformative events such as Datacentre Migration, Workload rehosting to Cloud, further automation that will all require capability development of teams, and the CAL role will be pivotal in coordinating that development and delivery.  

You will be a champion for new technology enablement, especially in Cloud, across the areas of Unix, Storage (NAS and SAN), Backup and Restore, Database and iSeries, productivity tooling, building Engineering culture and new ways of leading. 

What will your day look like

 

​​​​​​​As a Capability Area Lead you will work closely with the leadership team to build the right engineering capability, strategy and team culture required to deliver on the Portfolio and Tribe’s customer outcomes. The role is responsible for developing Unix, Storage and Database Chapter Leads/members, building world class engineering proficiency across Chapters within the Tribe and/or Portfolio.  

 

  • Develop strategic approach to capability development, aligned with the roadmap for the platforms/products/assets to be developed and supported across the Enterprise Compute teams in scope 
  • Have a vision for the expertise in Unix, Storage and DB within Enterprise Compute and monitors and drives strategy for capability development of Enterprise Compute chapters 
  • Leverages expertise within the Capability Area drawing on broader thought leadership and experts for whole team betterment 
  • Support of Technology Area Lead (TAL) for Enterprise Compute in operations and service delivery 
  • Support of the Product Area Lead (PAL), who drives the broader long term strategy and product direction for the targeted technology teams 
  • Influencing Strategy and roadmap ensuring there is clear alignment to all other layers of business and technology strategies. 
  • Galvanising squads around a vision and support them to successfully deliver customer value at pace.  
  • Planning and prioritising what needs to be done around people, process and technology in order to deliver upon customer / user needs and strategic priorities.  This includes working with the teams to identify, plan for, track and resolve dependencies.   
  • Pushing the boundaries of expertise to innovate, test and learn and experiment within matters of expertise 
  • Works with leadership to understand and plan for workforce capability needs, current and future 
  • Responsible for the personal development and performance reviews of Chapter Leads 
  • Coaching and development planning on expertise and personal development by promoting an ‘always learning’ culture 
  • Recognises and develops top-talent and proactively manages performance 

What will you bring?

 

  • Extensive experience in influencing and delivering outcomes through others  
  • Strong experience in infrastructure and team management and a great understanding of business and technology architecture 
  • A proven ability to innovate and adapt to the latest developments inside of ANZ and broader industry knowledge of trends, risks and opportunities, with specific focus on improving the overall customer experience 
  • The ability to communicate and work with multiple stake-holder groups (internal/external), bringing multiple teams/capabilities together to achieve a single mission 
  • The ability to quickly grasp new content and concepts and translate messages / requirements to teams to create shared clarity 
  • Proven analytical skills and data-driven decision maker  
  • Actively networks inside and outside of ANZ to leverage latest thinking, providing practical/relevant ideas, improvements and fit- 
  • May contribute to organisational knowledge, resources and tools to enable capability build  
  • Sought out as a credible guide, coach or mentor

  • Bring strong domain knowledge or deep expertise on a specific topic and develop this expertise and T-shaped capability 
  • Care for and nurture the growth of their chapter leads and members to ensure they are inspired by a sense of purpose and are continually building their mastery and autonomy 
  • Actively connects outside and inside ANZ to leverage latest thinking, providing practical/relevant ideas, improvements and fit-for-purpose solutions
