nternal Audit (IA) serves as the independent third line in ANZ’s three lines of defence (3LOD) governance model. Our IA function is made up of multiple teams that work together to help the bank move at pace safely, leveraging our enterprise-wide perspective and independence.
We currently have a permanent opportunity available within our Internal Audit Institutional team in Melbourne:
Audit Manager, Institutional – The Audit Manager role is key to delivering high-quality assurance over the Institutional business.
- Audit Managers execute audit tasks aligned with methodology, contributing to the assessment of risks and controls, and supporting the team in delivering safe, effective outcomes for customers, the Board, and regulators.
The role embodies Internal Audit’s purpose of being a trusted, independent voice that promotes strong risk management across the bank. You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders, influence strategic decisions, and drive continuous improvement across Institutional Non-Markets businesses.

Work Hours: Full time, 40 hrs/week
What will your day look like?
As the Audit Manager, you will be accountable for:
- Designing and delivering assurance activities that effectively identify risks and controls, ensuring audits meet objectives and are completed within budget.
- Building strong relationships with stakeholders to gain buy-in for audit outcomes and driving improvements in the risk and control environment. Understanding the business strategy and sharing insights with the audit team to support proactive risk management and add value.
- Executing audits in line with Internal Audit methodology, delivering high-quality reports, and providing timely updates on progress and findings.
- Contributing to strategic initiatives and maintaining a current view of the Institutional portfolio’s risk landscape through ongoing feedback and collaboration.
- Collaborating globally across ANZ’s Institutional network, gaining exposure to various business functions and contributing to cross-regional audit delivery.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in the role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Tertiary qualified, ideally with CPA/CA or postgraduate IT qualifications.
- Proficient in digital tools, automation, and data analytics.
- Strong understanding of risk, control, and regulatory frameworks within an Institutional banking environment.
- Extensive experience in audit, assurance, or risk management, with deep banking and finance industry knowledge with exposure to institutional banking products including lending, trade finance, cash management.
- Strong understanding of global internal audit standards (e.g. IIA) and methodology.
- Proven ability to execute complex assurance projects, using data analytics to enhance risk assessment and audit execution. Hands-on experience with generative AI, automation would be beneficial.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with a track record of working effectively with senior executives, and strong report writing and stakeholder presentation skills.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with strong communication, negotiation, and conflict management skills.
- A collaborative, growth-oriented mindset with a passion for innovation, continuous learning, and emerging technologies.
