About the Role
The Audit Lead – Credit Risk & Models supports delivery of independent third-line assurance across Retail Credit Risk, Wholesale Credit Risk and Model Risk through the Credit Risk Centre of Audit.
Reporting to the Audit Director – Credit Risk & Models, the role leads lower to medium complexity audit engagements and contributes to more complex audit activity across the approved Internal Audit plan, forming evidence-based conclusions on governance, risk management practices and controls supporting credit decision making, portfolio management and model use.
The role works closely with audit teams and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality audit outcomes in accordance with Internal Audit methodology and Global Internal Audit Standards, while contributing specialist risk insight and supporting a strong speak-up culture.

What will your day look like?
As Audit Lead – Credit Risk & Models, core accountabilities include:
- Lead lower to medium complexity Credit Risk & Models audit engagements, delivering independent third-line assurance aligned to the approved Internal Audit plan, and supporting delivery of more complex audits as required.
- Support annual and ongoing Credit Risk & Models audit planning, contributing insights from audit delivery, emerging issues, regulatory developments and thematic risks relevant to credit risk and model risk.
- Support effective risk identification and audit scoping, applying understanding of credit risk and/or model risk to help focus audit activity on material risks, key controls and relevant oversight arrangements.
- Manage audit delivery responsibilities to agreed timelines and budgets, including leading delivery discipline when acting as audit team lead and supporting delivery discipline when working as part of a larger audit team.
- Apply sound risk judgement and methodology conformance, ensuring audit work demonstrates clear understanding of key risks and is delivered in line with Internal Audit methodology and Global Internal Audit Standards.
- Apply relevant risk management frameworks and guidance in audit delivery, including those applicable to credit risk and model risk, to support robust risk analysis, testing and conclusions.
- Apply a data-first audit mindset, using data, analytics and model outputs where appropriate to support audit testing, assessment and insight within assigned audits.
- Engage with business stakeholders during audit delivery, managing day-to-day interactions and escalating sensitive or complex matters where judgement is required.
- Ensure audit observations and recommendations are clear, proportionate and value-adding, supported by evidence and clearly linked to identified weaknesses in governance, oversight, frameworks or controls.
- Support development of audit team members and a strong risk and speak-up culture, providing feedback during audits and role-modelling disciplined, risk-aware behaviours.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you’ll ideally bring the following:
- Internal audit expertise: Strong understanding of Internal Audit methodology, evidence standards and delivery discipline, applied to complex or technical subject matter with sound professional judgement.
- Risk expertise: Demonstrated expertise in Retail Credit Risk, Wholesale Credit Risk and/or Model Risk, including credit risk governance, risk management frameworks, credit model lifecycle, portfolio management practices, model lifecycle management, oversight activities and control environments relevant to assigned audit work.
- Business acumen: Strong understanding of banking fundamentals and operating models, including how credit products and portfolios are originated, managed, monitored and governed across end-to-end customer value chains.
- Audit delivery capability: Demonstrated experience leading lower to medium complexity audits or workstreams, and contributing to more complex audit engagements, delivering high-quality, evidence-based outcomes.
- Data-enabled assurance: Ability to use data, analytics and model outputs where appropriate to support audit scoping, testing, analysis and insight within assigned audits.
- Stakeholder engagement: Ability to engage effectively with business, risk and technical stakeholders during audit delivery, and to communicate audit findings clearly and credibly.
- Leadership and culture: Experience supporting development of audit team members and contributing to a strong speak-up culture, role modelling integrity, independence and sound professional judgement.
- Good to have: Experience in credit risk or model-driven environments within a large, regulated financial institution; exposure to audits or reviews involving models or quantitative techniques; or exposure to regulatory interactions, remediation activity or thematic risk work.
- Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in finance, economics, risk, accounting, mathematics, statistics or a related discipline. Quantitative or risk-focused professional qualifications (e.g. FRM, CFA or similar) are advantageous.
