About the Role

 

The Audit Director – Credit Risk & Models, within the Financial Risk & Markets portfolio, leads Internal Audit’s specialist assurance over Wholesale and Retail Credit Risk through operation of the Credit Risk Centre of Audit (CoA), and acts as Internal Audit’s subject matter expert for Model Risk.

 

The role provides independent third line assurance over the effectiveness of governance, risk management frameworks and controls supporting Credit Risk and Model Risk across the Group, including adherence to prudential standards and regulatory expectations. The role also works collaboratively across Internal Audit to shape and coordinate assurance coverage for Credit Risk and Model Risk exposures, ensuring specialist risk perspectives are incorporated and audit coverage is aligned, consistent and commensurate with the risk profile.

 

Reporting to the General Manager Audit – Financial Risk & Markets, this role plays a key leadership position within Internal Audit, shaping how specialist risk assurance is delivered, maintaining strong relationships with senior risk stakeholders, supporting audit capability development, contributing to Internal Audit’s strategic priorities and initiatives, and role modelling the standards, behaviours and independence expected of audit leaders.

What could your day look like?

 

As the Audit Director – Credit Risk & Models, you will be accountable for:

 

  • Accountable for the delivery of Internal Audit’s specialist assurance over Wholesale and Retail Credit Risk through operation of the Credit Risk Centre of Audit, aligned to the Group’s risk profile and approved audit plan
  • Form clear, evidence-based views on the effectiveness of governance, risk management frameworks and controls supporting Credit Risk and Model Risk
  • Own risk assessment and audit planning for Credit Risk and Model Risk, shaping coverage priorities and contributing to enterprise-wide audit planning
  • Provide constructive challenge and influence to business, risk and model stakeholders to strengthen governance, risk management and control environments
  • Oversee audit delivery across Credit Risk and Model Risk assurance activity, ensuring high-quality, timely outcomes, strong audit discipline and delivery in line with Internal Audit methodology and Global Internal Audit Standards
  • Collaborate across Internal Audit, including customer value chain audit teams, Centres of Audit and subject matter experts, to ensure coordinated and consistent assurance coverage
  • Lead specialist methodology and assurance approaches for Credit Risk and Model Risk, while monitoring emerging risks, regulatory developments and thematic issues
  • Lead, develop and mentor audit teams, building specialist capability, depth and consistency in audit execution and professional judgement
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in audit quality, methodology and execution, including through the use of data and technology
  • Support regulatory engagement, including supervisory interactions and requests, while representing Internal Audit at relevant governance and risk forums.

What will you bring?

 

To grow and be successful in this role, you’ll ideally bring the following:

 

  • Credit Risk expertise (Wholesale and/or Retail): Expert in credit risk management within a large, regulated financial institution, including credit frameworks, portfolio management and controls across the credit lifecycle, with familiarity with prudential regulatory expectations relevant to Credit Risk
  • Model Risk expertise: Expert knowledge of Model Risk management practices, including model governance, development, validation, use and performance monitoring, and the ability to exercise sound judgement when assessing model risk frameworks and controls and outcomes
  • Quantitative and analytical capability: Ability to interpret quantitative information, model outputs and analytics, assess model-driven decisioning and challenge assumptions, limitations and results in a risk and assurance context
  • Risk assurance: Experience leading the assessment of the design and effectiveness of governance, risk management frameworks and controls within complex, regulated environments, forming clear, evidence based conclusions
  • Data-enabled audit and analytics-informed assurance: Experience using data analytics and data-enabled assurance techniques to inform audit scoping, testing strategies and conclusions
  • Stakeholder engagement and influence: Strong capability to engage credibly with senior business, risk and operations stakeholders, provide constructive challenge and influence improvements in risk management and control environments
  • Leadership and people development: Experience leading, coaching and developing audit teams, building professional judgement, capability depth and succession through active involvement in assurance delivery
  • Internal Audit experience: Experience delivering audits or assurance engagements within an Internal Audit function, including familiarity with Internal Audit methodology, professional standards and third-line practices, is advantageous
  • Regulatory and financial services assurance exposure: Experience supporting prudential regulatory reviews, remediation or assurance activity, or working with second-line risk, finance or control functions within large financial institutions, is advantageous
  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in finance, economics, risk, accounting, mathematics, statistics or a related discipline. Quantitative or risk-focused professional qualifications (e.g. FRM, CFA or similar) are advantageous.
