About the Role
As a Senior Sanctions Complex Case Analyst in our FTCM Sacntions Team, you’ll serve as an escalation point for the Group Capability Centres (GCC) for the filtering of Inward/Outward SWIFT messages to and from ANZ, and customer account data through the Sanctions Filter which searches for sanctioned names and countries. You will ensure that sanctions risks, and customer experience are managed effectively through prompt actions with regards to issuance of Requests for Information (RFIs) and handling of the responses. Moreover, ensuring that cases referred (Complex Message Filtering and Namesearch alerts) are investigated and actioned in line with ANZ’s Sanctions Policy and Requirements.

What will your day look like?
In this role, you will be accountable for:
- Ensuring that sanctions cases related to Message Filtering and Namesearch that are escalated by the team in Group Capability Centres are investigated and actioned expeditiously as per the prescribed timelines.
- Ensuring no sanctions breaches occur (policy or regulatory) and that sanctions investigations are completed to the level of due diligence, quality and timeliness required.
- Ensuring actions related to issuance of Request of Information (RFIs) to banks or customers (where necessary) and the responses are handled expeditiously without any adverse impact to ANZ or customer experience.
- Immediate escalation of any ‘true sanctions matches’ to line managers.
- Working collaboratively with other team members to maintain the necessary coverage across Melbourne working hours including any public holidays as per team requirements.
- Building collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and teams to achieve objectives.
- Working closely and collaboratively with the Sanctions Control team to ensure early identification of risks
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Excellent understanding of sanctions risks related to transactions and customers.
- Financial Crime Investigations experience including clear and concise note writing ability justifying any decisions taken.
- Good knowledge of Payments messages and formats.
- Ability to work to tight timelines to ensure BAU is always met.
- Compliant with sanctions accreditation framework always.
- Interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills.
- Product knowledge, particularly international payments.
