As our chief representative, the Country Head Philippines is the “face” of ANZ in the Philippines. Responsible for Philippines’s end-to-end franchise across all Businesses, Products and Enablement, the Country Head Philippines is expected to role model ANZ’s values and behaviours and represent ANZ’s interests in Philippines at all times.
The Country Head is accountable for leading and managing the Philippines business to deliver the agreed strategy, operating and financial plan, and for continually improving performance (including return and productivity, customer experience, a highly engaged and capable workforce and strong risk and governance). This end-to-end remit is expected to be reflected in strong business execution with high collaboration across all areas in-country, by:
- Ensuring our total country franchise stays on strategy, works within risk appetite and delivers on its commitments;
- Closely engaging all Divisional Business / Product / Enablement leaders in establishing the local strategy with close alignment to the Group strategy and network priorities; and
- Driving a purpose and valued-led culture across the Philippines branch.
The Country Head Philippines is responsible for relationships with regulators, government authorities, leading companies, industry bodies, and community groups. The role requires extensive relationship development externally with stakeholders including regulators, clients and the Embassy, and strong collaboration internally with departments including TB, Global Markets, Corporate Finance, Operations, Technology, Risk, R&A, Finance, T&C & Compliance.
The also role requires a focus on delivery excellence to meet customer requirements while ensuring a strong internal risk and control environment that complies with group and local policies, procedures and regulations. The end-to-end nature of the Country Head role requires the incumbent to be responsible for the onshore governance of the business.
Philippines has its own unique market characteristics, and the incumbent is also expected to be the chief advocate for the Philippine business within ANZ. This role will therefore work closely with the team on the ground and global partners to find the best ways of defining and developing our position in the Philippines and the region to maximize a competitive advantage for our network while maintaining important connectivity with our home markets.
Your key accountabilities in this role will include:
- Financial
- Deliver the country’s annual financial plan across the franchise, including revenue, expenses, returns, growth and profitability.
- Customer
- Grow and strengthen the customer base by implementing country specific customer acquisition strategies, cross-sell and marketing plans.
- Leverage country customer relationships across the region. Ensure the country actively manages franchise business, as a full service country within the network.
- Oversee end-to-end customer experience in close partnership with leaders in various Businesses, Products and Enablement.
- Be the primary manager of all key public and private sector stakeholders, government, regulators and all commercial and community bodies.
- Process &Risk
- Develop and execute country / business strategy with strong governance and internal control.
- Accountable for all operational requirements and conditions relating to managing the business.
- Ensure all group, divisional and regional processes, policies and procedural requirements are adhered to in-country, and that all relevant group, regulatory, credit and operational obligations are satisfied; the foregoing also needs to fulfill all local regulatory requirements.
- Maintain portfolio-level credit quality, and keep all exposures within agreed risk limits.
- Ensure full compliance with internal and external requirements including reporting, with minimal incidents, and maintain a strong first line of defence.
- Oversee processes as a source of advantage, and drive productivity improvement.
- People
- Attract, retain and develop local talent in support of localisation strategy, while enhancing talent connectivity with other parts of ANZ.
- Strategic workforce management
- Drive the culture within Philippines to ensure that it is aligned to Divisional and Enterprise wide Aspirational culture
- Non-Financial Risk Management
- Drive Philippine Branch Accountability uplift including but not limited to uplift in stakeholder engagement, ownership of tasks and decisions, timeliness of issue identification, escalation, resolution and remediation
About You
To grow and be successful in this role, you’ll ideally bring the following:
- Senior leadership experience across industries, segments and/or geographies, with the ability to lead strategically and inspire a highly capable management team and workforce.
- Proven ability to create and sustain an aspirational culture.
- Ability to build and manage complex senior relationships across cultures, internally and externally, supported by international experience and strong cultural agility.
- Confident communicator with senior stakeholders, including Chief Executives, regulators, government officials, Finance Directors, customer boards, media representatives and established executive-level external networks.
- Ability to anticipate and adapt to industry and country-level change.
- Sound understanding of complex Institutional financing structures and techniques, with strong credit and risk knowledge, experience and assessment capability.
- Ability to grow and sustain the Philippine business through global financial cycles while delivering the in-country strategy.
- Focus on strengthening and expanding ANZ’s market position while improving returns, productivity and stakeholder engagement, including with employees.
