Finance Governance and Controls provides the first line business governance and controls assurance with a primary focus on Core Finance and Controls and financial and finance regulatory reporting. It is responsible for supporting Finance risk and control owners and develops and executes controls assurance program the management of risk of external statutory financial reporting.  The assurance provided supports control owners in attesting to the effectiveness of their controls and supports risk owner (CFO) in assessment and attestations on the overall control effectiveness associated with risks related to financial information and related financial and financial regulatory reporting.  integrity of ANZ’s Group financial statements.

 

Finance Governance and Controls forms part of broader controls assurance as part of Enterprise Finance Financial Operating Risk Governance team and control officer responsibilities the non-financial risk management lifecycle as per the ANZ Non-Financial Risk (NFR) Management Framework.

 

You will play a key role in:

 

  • Testing of the design and operating effectiveness of key external statutory financial reporting controls relevant to the risk associated with external statutory financial reporting misstatement.
  • Developing and maintaining control testing schedules and executing testing in line with that schedule
  • Executing all aspects of control testing including leading control walkthroughs and control testing documentation
  • Communicating test results to control owners to support them in their attestations on their overall control effectiveness to risk owners.
  • Identify and report issues identified from controls testing and assurance.
  • Proactively identifies gaps and areas for improvement in process and work with the business to develop internal controls to mitigate any operational or compliance risk.
  • Manages the assessment, response, tracking, escalation and resolution of issues and matters arising from internal and external audit reports, Operational Risk assessments and other compliance programs.
  • Support control owners with recommendations and insights to develop appropriate remediation plans to address control weaknesses or improve or enhance controls.
  • Supporting 1st line risk and assurance (financial reporting governance, non-financial risk management and other Group Policy compliance requirements as required) for HFC, CF&C and Enterprise Finance more broadly.

What will you bring?

 

To grow and be successful in the role, you will ideally bring the following:

 

 

  • A bachelors’ university degree and be a qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) / Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA)
  • Proven experience in financial services, controls assurance or governance roles
  • Deep working knowledge of financial control (relevant financial and regulatory reporting processes) within a financial services environment
  • Experience in presenting finance matters, including issues and resolutions to senior stakeholders.
  • Proven demonstrated relevant professional experience/exposure to risk, assurance, controls, and compliance frameworks /processes.
  • Commitment to personal and professional development and continued learning – an ability and willingness to learn and then apply new Frameworks, policies etc.
  • Ability to influence/manage key stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work in and contribute to a positive, supportive, and high performing team and proactively contribute ideas to continuously improve team performance.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in developing useful and insightful risk reporting. 
  • Demonstrated track record of working to and managing competing deadlines and being efficient and organized in all operations.
  • Strong organisational, forward planning and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal - people and stakeholder management skills.
