About the Role
As a Senior Compliance Manager, you will lead the UK Compliance team while supporting the effective operation of the Compliance Framework across ANZ’s UK & Europe Institutional activities.
You will also play a key role in supporting the broader European Compliance team on regional matters, providing independent second line compliance advice, review and challenge, regulatory engagement support and governance input. In addition, you will act as a senior delegate for the Head of Compliance and Operational Risk, UK & Europe, in relation to SMF16 compliance matters.

What will your day look like?
As a Senior Compliance Manager, you will
- Provide practical, risk-based compliance advice to Institutional business lines and support functions across the UK, and support the broader European Compliance team where UK or regional input is required
- Advise on regulatory obligations, business initiatives, product proposals, and control design and implementation matters
- Lead the implementation of the compliance framework within the UK
- Manage obligation management, compliance risk assessments, planning, thematic reviews, management information and escalation of material issues
- Perform independent second line review and challenge of business activity, including controls, treatment plans, issue closure, event assessments and remediation
- Support regulatory change implementation
- Support UK and European regulatory engagement, including regulator meeting preparation, response coordination, commitment tracking and record keeping
- Contribute to governance forums through compliance reporting, risk committee input and escalation of regulatory, conduct, reputational or operational issues
- Support oversight of the UK accountability regime, including SMCR, Certification Regime and Conduct Rules activities
- Monitor UK and European regulatory developments, assess ANZ impact and support proportionate first line implementation
- Coordinate compliance training, communications, projects, thematic reviews and regulatory inspection activity for the UK, and support broader European activity where required
- Work with Compliance, Operational Risk, Financial Crime, Legal, Governance and Reporting and Group stakeholders to ensure advice and oversight are aligned, practical and documented
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Strong working knowledge of the UK regulatory environment, including FCA and PRA expectations relevant to an international banking branch or institutional banking environment
- Demonstrated experience in a compliance, regulatory advisory, regulatory risk, legal, audit, assurance or business governance role within financial services
- Experience providing senior stakeholder advice, including explaining regulatory obligations, identifying practical implementation options and challenging constructively where risks are not appropriately managed
- Good understanding of second line oversight, including review and challenge, governance, regulatory obligation management, issue and event management, regulatory change and compliance monitoring or thematic review activity
- Ability to produce clear written advice, management information, committee papers and regulatory materials that distinguish facts, judgement, ownership, actions and risk considerations
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across business, risk, compliance, legal and operations teams
- Ability to operate with judgement, pace and independence, including prioritising competing demands and escalating material issues clearly and early
- Experience supporting or coordinating regulatory engagement, inspections, information requests or regulatory change implementation, and preparing senior committee papers or regulatory materials
- People leadership experience, including coaching team members, setting priorities, supporting delivery and building capability in a compliance, risk or regulatory environment
- Knowledge of Institutional banking products and services, relevant European regulatory regimes, and experience with SMCR, conduct risk, regulatory obligations, operational resilience or related regulatory frameworks
- Relevant tertiary qualification in law, finance, business, economics, risk management or a related discipline, and ongoing commitment to professional development in UK and European financial services regulation
