About the Role

The Audit Lead, Europe & America is responsible for supporting delivery of independent third line assurance across the Institutional portfolio, excluding Markets, through audits assessing the effectiveness of governance, risk management and controls.

Reporting to the Head of Audit, Europe & America, the role leads or contributes to audit engagements across end-to-end Institutional customer value chains and the relevant Critical Operation, forming evidence-based assessments of control effectiveness, service reliability and regulatory compliance.

The role works closely with audit teams and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality audit outcomes in accordance with Internal Audit methodology and Global Internal Audit Standards, while contributing informed risk insights and supporting a strong speak-up culture.

What will your day look like?

As the Audit Lead, Europe & America, you will;

• Support the Head of Audit, Europe & America to maintain an up-to-date assessment of the risk and control environment for the E&A portfolio.
• Lead audit engagements or contribute as a team member on audits across Institutional end-to-end customer value chains, delivering assurance aligned to the approved Internal Audit plan.
• Manage audit delivery responsibilities to agreed timelines and budgets, including leading delivery discipline when acting as audit team lead and supporting delivery discipline when working as part of a larger audit team.
• Support effective risk identification and audit scoping, focusing audit work on material risks and customer outcomes, and refining scope under guidance without reducing assurance.
• Apply sound risk judgement and methodology conformance, ensuring audit work demonstrates understanding of key risks and is aligned to Internal Audit methodology and Global Internal Audit Standards.
• Apply relevant risk management frameworks in audit delivery, including the Non-Financial Risk Framework and other applicable guidance, to support risk analysis, testing and conclusions.
• Support issue follow-up and validation readiness on assigned audits, ensuring documentation is accurate, timely and sufficient, and escalating concerns as required.
• Apply a data-first audit mindset, using data analytics and AI within audit delivery to strengthen testing, insight and efficiency.
• Engage with business stakeholders during audit delivery, managing day-to-day interactions and escalating sensitive or complex matters where judgement is required.
• Ensure audit findings and recommendations are clear and value-adding, proportionate to risk, timely and commercially pragmatic, and linked to customer outcomes, conduct and service reliability.
• Support development of audit team members and a strong risk and speak-up culture, providing feedback during audits and role modelling disciplined, risk-aware behaviours.

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you’ll ideally bring the following:

• Internal audit expertise: Strong understanding of audit methodology, evidence standards, reporting and issue validation.
• Business acumen (institutional banking): Deep understanding of Institutional banking products, services, customers and operating models, including end-to-end institutional value chains and supporting operational processes.
• Risk capability (conduct, fraud, compliance, transaction processing & execution and resilience): Deep expertise in assessing conduct risk and its impact on customer outcomes, and proficient capability in assessing fraud, compliance, transaction processing & execution, business continuity and third-party risks.
• Track record of audit delivery: Demonstrated delivery of medium to high complexity audits or workstreams with high-quality, defensible outcomes.
• Stakeholder engagement: Strong ability to engage senior Institutional stakeholders, communicate audit conclusions clearly, and manage challenge or differing views constructively.
• Data-enabled assurance: Practical experience using data and analytics to strengthen audit scoping, testing, insight and conclusions.
• Leadership and culture: Experience supporting development of audit team members and contributing to a strong speak-up culture, role modelling integrity, independence and sound professional judgement.
• Regulatory knowledge: Understanding of the UK, European and/or US regulatory environment.
• Qualifications: Tertiary qualification and/or relevant professional certification (e.g. CPA, CA, CIA or equivalent), with postgraduate qualifications in accounting, audit, operational risk, compliance or related disciplines (such as ACAMS) advantageous.
