About the Role

 

As an Associate Director, Conduct & Compliance Risk, North Asia, you will sit within the Institutional Division Conduct and Compliance Centre of Expertise (COE) and play a key role in embedding best practice Conduct and Compliance Risk management across Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Japan.

 

You will drive first line of defense accountability and partner closely with Institutional frontline teams, Enterprise Risk Theme experts, and NFR Governance & Reporting teams to manage value chain and country risk profiles. With a focus on the end-to-end customer journey and the effectiveness of the risk and control environment, you will lead risk identification and assessment activities, support regulatory and policy change implementation, and partner with the business to design, uplift and embed sustainable Conduct and Compliance risk management practices and controls.

What will your day look like?

 

As an Associate Director, Conduct & Compliance Risk, North Asia, you will;

 

  • Interpret and apply Group Risk policies, standards and regulatory obligations relating to Conduct and Compliance risk across North Asia.
  • Lead impact assessments and implementation activities arising from regulatory, policy or risk standard changes.
  • Lead Regulatory Change execution across Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Japan, including regional governance activities and Institutional oversight.
  • Inform inherent and residual risk assessments for Conduct and Regulatory risks across Institutional value chains and countries.
  • Conduct thematic reviews to identify control gaps, weaknesses and emerging Conduct and Regulatory risks.
  • Partner with business teams to design, uplift and embed effective controls aligned to enterprise risk frameworks.
  • Prepare risk insights, analysis and reporting to support governance forums and decision-making processes.
  • Escalate material risk issues, control failures and non-compliance matters in line with established escalation protocols.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of Conduct and Compliance controls and their alignment to NFR Governance frameworks.
  • Act as a trusted risk partner, supporting clear Line 1 ownership and accountability for Conduct and Regulatory risk.
  • Collaborate across Institutional Centers of Expertise and adjacent risk disciplines including Financial Crime, Operational Resilience, and Technology/Data/Information Security to deliver pragmatic risk outcomes.
  • Promote risk capability and culture through guidance, coaching and practical support to business stakeholders.

 

 

 

What will you bring?

 

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

 

  • Strong expertise in risk management frameworks and the ability to apply risk principles effectively within complex business and operational environments.
  • Experience embedding and uplifting risk frameworks, controls and risk management practices within financial services organisations.
  • Strong capability in risk analytics, tooling and automation, with the ability to translate data and insights into practical risk mitigation strategies.
  • Strong understanding of controls design, assurance and testing, including experience supporting risk remediation activities and assurance findings management.
  • Experience leading or supporting regulatory change implementation and interpreting complex regulatory requirements to deliver practical business solutions.
  • Sound judgement with the ability to balance risk, customer and business outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, with experience partnering with senior leaders, risk committees and cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive Line 1 risk ownership and accountability and foster a strong risk culture.
  • Knowledge of Conduct and Compliance risk management, with awareness of adjacent risk disciplines including financial crime, operational resilience and operational risk.
  • Understanding of the Institutional Banking environment, including products, customer journeys and credit processes, will be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with the ORX NFR Taxonomy, enterprise risk management frameworks and Conduct & Compliance risk standards will be beneficial.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Law, Risk or a related discipline, with relevant professional certifications and a commitment to ongoing professional development highly regarded.
