About the Role

This is a senior, hands‑on opportunity to own outcomes end‑to‑end and play a critical role in shaping and driving the performance of ANZ’s Credit Cards & Personal Loans portfolio.

 

As Senior Portfolio Manager – Early Month On Book (EMOB) (the first ~90 days of a customer’s lifecycle) & Retention, you will be accountable for the early lifecycle and retention strategy, owning key customer journeys from card issuance or loan drawdown through to first use and sustained usage. You will identify friction, simplify experiences, and drive improvements that deliver strong customer and commercial outcomes in a complex, regulated environment.

 

Reporting to the Head of Acquisition, Activation & Retention, you will work very closely with the Portfolio Manager – EMOB & Retention, and partner across Digital, Marketing, Operations, Risk and Legal to land outcomes that are robust, compliant and built to scale. This role will suit a commercially minded leader who can move confidently between strategy and execution, make clear trade‑offs, and influencing through strong cross‑functional leadership.

What will your day look like?

  • Own and evolve the EMOB and retention strategy for Credit Cards and Personal Loans, aligned to portfolio growth, customer and financial objectives
  • Translate strategy into clear initiatives, roadmaps and business cases that balance customer value, commercial impact and delivery feasibility
  • Optimise the end‑to‑end customer journey across EMOB and retention, from card issuance through to first use and sustained usage, ensuring experiences are clear, simple and effective
  • Operate as a portfolio strategist, using customer insight, behavioural signals and performance data to prioritise the highest‑value opportunities
  • Track and manage key portfolio performance metrics, including activation rates, attrition and contribution to P&L outcomes
  • Provide strong leadership in a matrix environment, aligning stakeholders, setting clear priorities and unblocking delivery
  • Partner closely across Product, Digital, Marketing, Operations, Risk and Legal to deliver outcomes that are scalable
  • Embed a strong risk and compliance mindset, ensuring EMOB and retention solutions are robust, sustainable and fit for purpose

What will you bring?

  • Demonstrated experience leading portfolio performance, lifecycle strategy and/or customer journey optimisation in complex environments
  • Strong commercial judgement with a clear sense of accountability for outcomes
  • Ability to think strategically while staying close to execution, moving comfortably between big‑picture direction and detailed problem solving
  • Sharp analytical skills and the ability to turn customer insight and data into clear priorities and action
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in matrixed teams, influencing and aligning senior stakeholders
  • Confidence navigating regulated environments and integrating risk and compliance considerations into delivery
  • Experience in financial services, cards, lending or product‑led roles is highly desirable
