About the Role

 

The primary purpose for this role is rapidly responding to cyber threats to the bank as the last line of defence. This role is responsible for leading and maturing the Security Operations Centre (SOC), understanding the threat environment to improve our defences, ensuring mature cyber incident response and automation capabilities that protect the organisation and its customers. This role drives strategic oversight, operational excellence, and innovation and continuous improvement across these functions, fosters cross-functional collaboration, and champions automation and innovation to improve operational resilience. The leader will shape cyber security capabilities aligned with evolving threat landscape, enterprise risk objectives, and regulatory requirements- ensuring the organization remains secure, agile, and well-prepared for emerging challenges.

What will your day look like?


The Product Area Lead is responsible to:

 

 
  • Lead the SOC to ensure effective monitoring, triage, and resolution of security incidents, continuously improving response processes, playbooks, and automation.
  • Drive mature threat detection engineering, including rule development, tuning, and integrating the threat‑hunting lifecycle for early incident detection and rapid containment.
  • Coordinate major incident response end‑to‑end, ensuring swift containment, investigation, and remediation, with strong incident management and clear impact assessment.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders on regulatory notifications, communications, and post‑incident reviews.
  • Continuously test and assess ANZ’s network risk posture.
  • Champion response automation for greater speed, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Maintain strong awareness of regulatory requirements and risk to safeguard customers and the bank.
  • Adopt and implement emerging technologies such as AI‑driven detection and orchestration.
  • Define and track metrics to measure product success and report incident trends, threats, and high‑risk exposures to leadership.
  • Mentor analysts and engineers to foster excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Promote an enterprise mindset across teams to strengthen preparedness, prevention, detection, response, and resilience.
  • Act as a cybersecurity thought leader, staying ahead of threats, technologies, and industry best practices to shape program enhancements.
  • Develop and optimize product strategy based on market trends and modern ways of working.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and maintain clear communication to address risks, remove barriers, and drive delivery.
     

What will you bring?


To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

 

  • Strong cyber security background with leadership experience in SOC operations and incident response, skilled in analysing complex issues and designing effective threat‑response solutions.
  • Deep technical expertise in large‑scale environments, including threat intelligence, MITRE ATT&CK, adversary TTPs, SIEM optimisation (Splunk, QRadar, ArcSight), and core detection technologies (firewalls, endpoint, IDS/IPS, CSPM).
  • Broad understanding of networks, protocols, cloud platforms, and secure architecture, with strong analytical skills spanning threat assessment, impact analysis, and risk evaluation.
  • Proven ability to lead high‑performing teams through high‑pressure incidents, influence stakeholders, secure resources, and communicate cyber risks clearly and pragmatically.
  • Strong capability to assess complex risks, balance innovation with security, and design effective mitigation strategies while staying current with evolving threats, trends, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor, coach, inspire teams, quickly absorb new concepts, and drive continuous improvement and innovation.
