About the Role

As a Control Assurance Advisor, you will play a key role in conducting control testing and assurance activities to manage Suncorp Bank's operational risks and compliance obligations. Through this, you will detect control gaps and provide recommendations, including identifying control automation opportunities, to enhance the Bank's control environment. Additionally, you will elevate control maturity in collaboration with 1LoD Risk & Compliance teams and Control Owners, across the organisation. Furthermore, you will offer coaching and support to drive capability uplift within the Control Assurance team.

Work Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

What will your day look like?

As a Control Assurance Advisor, you will:

  • Collaborate with 1LoD Risk & Compliance, Control Owners and subject matter experts (SMEs) to to ensure effective consultation in the design and execution of control tests, aligning with Financial Accountability Regime (FAR) accountabilities.
  • Execute timely control tests and assurance activities for Bank operational risk and compliance obligations in alignment with the Control Testing Schedule, ensuring they comply with internal Policies, Frameworks, and Standards, regulatory requirements, and FAR reasonable steps requirements.
  • Investigate opportunities to identify cost effective strategies for improving the Bank’s control environment. This includes identifying automation opportunities where possible to reduce cost and ensure an improved customer experience.
  • Negotiate and advocate on control uplift recommendations and opportunities with Control Owners.
  • Foster effective relationship management and provide training to support Control Owners in understanding their risk accountabilities and enhancing their knowledge of controls across the Bank.
  • Provide subject matter expertise (SME) on the development of new controls and automated controls during risk profiling exercises, projects, and other change initiatives.
  • Coordinate the annual Control Test Schedule and necessary sign offs across Bank.
  • Prepare reporting for Business Area risk forum/ committees on the control environment and control testing updates.
  • Provide control testing and assurance expertise and coaching to Bank Control Assurance, 1LoD Risk and Compliance advisors and teams to uplift control capability.
  • Complete ad-hoc work as required to support the delivery of the Bank’s strategic objectives

What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Experience in risk, compliance, audit, and/or control assurance
  • Excellent stakeholder management – develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders applying fit for purpose engagement models.
  • Experience using Suncorp Bank Policies, Frameworks and Standards
  • In-depth knowledge and comprehension of risk management, including a strong level of understanding and proven history of applying industry risk and control practices.
  • Effective communication – convey and explain information, coherently and confidently
  • Openness to giving and receiving feedback and a commitment to drive self-improvement.
  • Effective planning and organizing – develop structured processes to proactively define objectives and create a strategic delivery plan, ensuring execution within expected timeframes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills - proactively gather relevant information, deconstruct complex issues into manageable components, and formulate practical solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills – use information to identify key issues, compare data and draw insights.
  • Innovative and creative thinking – continuously develop and apply fresh ideas to enhance efficiency and elevate work quality, driving meaningful improvements.
  • Strong understanding of banking/finance products, industry, market environment and customer segment would be highly regarded
