About the Role

The Tech Business Analyst provides technical and analytical expertise to support the delivery of complex data initiatives in a banking environment. You’ll work closely with the Delivery Leads, business/technology stakeholders and Data Delivery Engineers to make sure data solutions are well-defined, aligned to business needs, and deliver real value for customers.

  • Work in an agile and collaborative team, across multiple delivery pods, collaborating with business and technical stakeholders to capture and provide an end-to-end view of business requirement and technical specifications.
  • Apply business analysis skills, techniques, and activities to understand, validate, synthesise, and articulate problems, opportunities, requirements, options, and solutions.
  • Translate business outcomes into data requirements, including source-to-target mappings, transformation logic, and business rules.
  • Build shared understanding through artefacts such as Delivery mapping/User Story mapping, User stories & Acceptance criteria, Data flows diagrams, Data mappings, and models.
  • Actively exchange knowledge and techniques to enhance the collective capability of the BA chapter.
  • Share knowledge and support capability growth of peers and Business Analysts
  • Provide passion about agile product development and help drive continuous improvements in our scrum teams

What will your day look like?

As a Tech Business Analyst, your key accountabilities will include: 

  • Providing technical business analysis expertise on data-centric projects to help deliver initiatives.
  • Developing and managing high-quality requirements that are accurate, traceable, and fit for purpose across the project lifecycle.
  • Documenting requirements using appropriate formats suited to the type of work (e.g., user stories, specifications, data mapping documents).
  • Partnering with the Delivery Leads & Engineers to shape the Story map/Delivery map and the backlog to help visualise work end to end.
  • Work closely with the Engineers to ensure requirements are clearly understood and while facilitating further business clarifications as required by the teams.
  • Creating documentation and presentations to communicate insights, findings, and recommendations effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Supporting data governance practices, ensuring compliance with internal policies, standards, and external regulatory obligations.
  • Ensure all services comply with ANZ Group, Information & Insights strategy, policies, processes, and standards and with external regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and implement improvements to BA practices such as developing templates and standardised documentation

What will you bring?

 

The ‘must have’ knowledge, skill, and experience (KSE) the role requires are:

  • Foundational understanding of data warehousing concepts (e.g., dimensional modelling, grain, slowly changing dimensions)
  • Proven experience as a Business Analyst in the technology domain preferably in an agile set up
  • Strong ability to elicit, analyse, and document business and technical requirements, including writing user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Foundational understanding of data warehousing concepts & proficiency in SQL for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis is must
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyse large, complex datasets to identify trends, gaps, and insights.
  • Focus on understanding of testing concepts to identify edge cases, validation rules, and data scenarios, and to contribute to testable requirements and acceptance criteria in collaboration with QA teams and Test Leads to ensure system quality.
  • Skilled in facilitation - workshops, interviews, and discussions to capture and articulate data requirements and technical needs.
  • Experience in writing and validating business rules that guide data processing, transformation, and usage across systems.
  • Competence in using a variety of BA techniques such as story mapping, process/data flow diagrams to elicit & document business requirements
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building abilities across business and technology domains.

 

‘Good to have’ knowledge, skills and experiences

  • Proficiency in using authorised AI tools to enhance BA practices and support GenAI improvement initiatives.
  • Go beyond analysis into data modelling concepts (logical/physical models)
  • Ability to navigate Teradata data assets and use SQL queries to support data analysis and validation.
  • Familiarity with Python for tasks such as basic data analysis, validation, or quick prototyping
  • Experience in financial services/banking or other highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of BIAN (Banking Industry Architecture Network) and its application in ANZ context
  • Skills in data quality, metadata management, and data governance
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements for data management
  • The Technical Business Analyst role requires an understanding of the SDLC lifecycle. This knowledge enables the analyst to perform deeper technical analysis, anticipate potential challenges early in the process, and raise them upfront, rather than waiting for issues to surface during the delivery phase.
