As part of the CRO – Technology & Data Risk function, this role is a leader with deep expertise in Technology and Information Security risk management, and broad knowledge of related risk themes (Business Resilience, 3rd Party Supplier Risk, Data and AI, etc.) who can solve complex problems and exercise a high degree of evaluative judgement and insight.  The role will foster strong working relationships with colleagues across geographies and risk partners in Group Technology, provide advice/guidance on technology risk and compliance management maturity and perform detailed oversight of key risks, controls and environmental factors, including events and indicators, using data analysis and insight. The role may have 5-7 direct and indirect reports and therefore requires leadership skills and the development of others.

 

This role will foster strong working relationships with business and risk partners at senior levels within the Technology division and Group Risk, provide insight and advice/guidance to business teams in relation to non-financial risk and compliance and perform effective oversight over the risks associated with the division. The role also collaborates closely with other Group Risk Senior Managers and supports Divisional teams to strengthen the voice of risk on Technology related matters.

What will your day look like?

 

As a Senior Manager, NFR Oversight and an Enterprise Technology Risk professional (Second line), you will build and maintain relationships with senior and executive level internal and external stakeholders to influence/negotiate change. It is expected you will drive your own direction, self-start, and make decisions under broadly defined boundaries, principles, and general direction. 

 

Specific Responsibilities Include: 

 

  • Leadership and people development of staff.
  • Lead the planning and monitor/ report on delivery of overall annual theme review plans and OKRs for the CRO Group Technology team, ensuring plans are comprehensively developed in a timely manner to support integration with Internal Audit, Group Risk and Technology, endorsed and periodically reported at relevant forums and committees.
  • Act as the custodian for the overall team Service Catalogue and activity Playbooks, ensuring common, effective and efficient practices are undertaken across the CRO Group Technology team.
  • Remain independent in providing Division-specific review and challenge insights to CRO Group Technology team members, to support the planning and completion of high quality and relevant independent review and challenge across relevant Risk Themes including Technology, Information Security, Business Resilience, Third Party Supplier Risk and Data.
  • Consider the business context and environment, and oversee, review and challenge the discharge of Risk Theme Officers, Risk Owners, Control Officers, and Control Owners accountabilities and responsibilities, including of Overall implementation of the NFR framework (and NFR framework adherence)

    • Identification and assessment of risk (and periodic review processes)

    • Actions to mitigate risk, including overall adequacy of the control environment (TCL oversight).

    • Events and issues remediation (and periodic thematic review of events).

    • Risks relevant to strategic planning discussions and change (and periodic thematic review of change).

    • The broader risk management environment including capability, culture, and systems (and Risk Culture maturity).

  • Participate in Business forums such as risk assessment workshops, to provide insight and advice, ensuring appropriate consideration of operational risk and compliance issues.

  • Lead a team to provide independent review and challenge on control design and operating effectiveness, including comprehensive Line 2 oversight of the Technology Controls Library TCL) and related assurance.

  • Review and or prepare committee briefing papers and supporting insights.

  • As a leader of people, consider short and long-term workforce needs and develop plans and approaches to build and/or attract appropriate skills and capability.

  • As a leader of leaders, ensure that people development is managed and supported throughout the portfolio.

What will you bring?

 

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

 

  • 12+ years’ experience in Operational risk and/or Compliance or related disciplines
  • Technology expertise with significant experience in risk management and compliance
  • Good understanding of banking processes and challenges
  • Program and portfolio management expertise
  • Detailed understanding of Risk and Control Frameworks and how they are applied to support sound risk outcomes
  • Experience in designing and assessing controls and assurance oversight processes
  • An analytical mindset and an ability to derive insights using risk and operational data
  • Extensive experience in leading people / teams and driving high engagement and team outcomes
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong business and commercial acumen and judgment in forming risk opinions and recommendations
  • Strong relationship management skills with evidence of working effectively with and influencing senior business stakeholders, including across geographies.

  • Excellent negotiating, influencing and conflict management skills.

  • Confidence to own your opinions and challenge in a professional manner.   

  • Experience at Director level within a “Big 4” consulting firm or equivalent (eg international banking)

  • Tertiary qualified, ideally with Professional and, or Post Graduate qualifications with strong technically relevant skills and understanding of technology risk.
