About the Role

 

The role focuses on serving the division by identifying opportunities to centrally monitor controls, at scale, delivering optimal Non-Financial Risk outcomes. 

The role holder is accountable for supporting the execution of the Control Self-Assessment (CSA) process in partnership with Control Owners in Institutional’s International businesses. CSA is applied to Controls across assigned products, processes, and value chains within the First Line of Defence. It uses data‑driven methods to assess control design and operating effectiveness, highlights non‑compliance and thematic issues, and translates findings into clear, prioritized remediation and continuous‑improvement actions. 

This role champions uplift in design, automation and coverage, ensures testing work is well‑governed, traceable, and timely, whilst adhering to enterprise risk standards and regulatory obligations. This role partners closely with the businesses Control Owners and risk subject matter experts to strengthen the end‑to‑end control environment and risk culture, influencing stakeholders to embed sustainable, root cause focused remediation.

What will your day look like?

 

Support and Deliver, Risk-Based Monitoring/Testing of Controls and associated Control Self-Assessment:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute control monitoring/testing across assigned products, processes, and value chains.
  • Assess the design and operating effectiveness of business processes and controls through control monitoring/testing.
  • Formalize Control Self-Assessment (CSA) outcomes in partnership with accountable Control Owners.

Translate Findings into Actionable Remediation and Governance:

  • Convert monitoring/testing outcomes into clear, concise, prioritized insights that support decision-making and risk management.
  • Capture and escalate NFR issues uncovered during monitoring/testing in accordance with the Risk Management Framework.
  • Leverage central reporting to highlight thematics and drive risk management considerations.
  • Drive control uplift opportunities and areas for investment in automation or process improvement.

Strengthen Risk Capability and Control Ownership Across the Business:

  • Partner with Control Owners, business stakeholders and 2nd/3rd line to build a shared understanding of NFR, Controls and testing/monitoring expectations.
  • Support business teams in designing sustainable control improvements, embedding strong Control Ownership.
  • Align monitoring/testing activities with broader enterprise risk management frameworks and regulatory expectations to promote a consistent, well‑governed control environment.

What will you bring?

To grow and succeed in this role, you will ideally bring:

 

  • 7+ years of institutional international business experience across one or more countries, with a strong focus on Non-Financial Risk.
  • Proven people management experience, including leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong understanding of control monitoring and assessment methodologies, including evaluating both control design and operating effectiveness.
  • Deep knowledge of non-financial risk frameworks, risk obligations, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Solid understanding of governance expectations, documentation requirements, and evidence management standards.
  • Knowledge of data analytics concepts and data structures, with the ability to leverage data to inform Risk and Control Assessments (RCAs) and control monitoring activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build effective partnerships across business and risk teams to strengthen and enhance control effectiveness.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical findings into clear, actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Strong planning, prioritization, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple monitoring activities and competing deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, supported by strong discipline in governance, documentation, testing, and evidence retention practices.
