About the Role

 

This role provides legal advice and company secretarial support primarily to the ANZ Group Capability Centre at Bengaluru in India (the supported business). The supported business comprises ANZ Operations and Technology Private Limited and ANZ Support Services India Private Limited, which together support Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ) globally. The Lawyer provides legal and company secretarial support required by the supported business and ANZ.  The Lawyer will also support the risk, compliance and enablement partners primarily in Bengaluru, India and across the supported regions.

What will your day look like?

 

  • provide technically excellent, strategic and solutions orientated legal and regulatory advice to legal, risk and business stakeholders across the supported business, helping to ensure the right outcomes are achieved.
  • provide company secretarial and governance support (and supervise such support) to the supported business.;
  • develop and demonstrate a strong understanding of the supported business, including its strategic agenda and customers.
  • contribute to maintaining a well-managed business by identifying, raising and managing legal and regulatory risks and issues.
  • support the business and its operations and risk partners to understand the legal and regulatory landscape, global trends and risks in the execution of their strategic plans, helping to implement changes as appropriate.
  • help resolve the supported business’ legal, regulatory or customer problems;
  • negotiate and draft documentation and assist with execution of the supported business’ agreements relating to its activities including contracts with ANZ and other related group entities and with third parties;
  • review, advise upon and negotiate draft documentation for ANZ’s related group entities, as required, including procurement contracts and supervise this activity, as appropriate;
  • provide advice on and assistance with the remediation activities, regulatory enquiries or investigations, requests for information, disputes, complaints or other issues faced by the supported business;
  • provide advice on the entry into, ongoing maintenance and resolution of issues relating to the strategic contracts undertaken by the supported business;
  • engage external legal advisers in a manner that ensures value for money and appropriate cost control and where possible keeps work in-house rather than briefing external lawyers.
  • collaborate across L&CG, contributing towards the provision of seamless service to the supported business and ANZ globally.

What will you bring?

 

Working on matters up to the most complex with limited supervision requires the holder of this role to have strong:

 

  • More than 10 years post-qualification experience as a lawyer (either as an in-house counsel and/or in private practice) with strong technical legal expertise in banking and finance law and proven ability to exercise excellent judgement in the identification and management of legal risk
  • Understanding of the legal, regulatory, operational and commercial risks relevant to the supported businesses and region. 
  • Ability to deliver timely legal advice in a way that helps the business achieve its commercial objectives whilst understanding legal risk
  • A well-developed risk radar and confidence to speak-up and escalate risks appropriately 
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with the business.
  • Ability to work at pace with care 
  • Soft skills (communication skills, stakeholder management skills, prioritization and organizational skills), that in each case allows the holder of this role to deliver work ranging from low complexity with no supervision to the most complex with limited supervision.
     

What we need?

 

  • 10+ PQE as a lawyer 
  • Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India
  • Tertiary legal qualification 
  • Admission as a lawyer in Bengaluru, India or other jurisdiction as appropriate for the role
