About the Role
This role delivers positive Non-Financial Risk (NFR) outcomes, using data and analytics to improve control monitoring processes and assure the consistency and quality of controls at a greater scale. This role supports the Associate Director in optimising the Institutional division’s approach to control monitoring by increasing the effectiveness of control design and operating effectiveness assurance, enabling the expansion of central monitoring coverage of the divisions control environment, by the Center of Expertise.
A key component of this role is partnering the business to drive automation of key business processes with effective engagement across the value chain to deliver controls that are sustainable in design and operation. NFR outcomes focus on translating control monitoring findings into insights for decision-making (e.g. focus areas for control testing, investment in automation, improvement in business controls).
The role provides delivery and capability leadership rather than people management, guiding Leads and senior practitioners, shaping priorities, and maintaining strong independence from control ownership and remediation accountability.

What will your day look like?
- Enhance the use of data and analytics to improve control testing and quality assurance processes to expand the efficiency and effectiveness of testing and assurance activity and improve the level of comfort that business processes are operating as intended in the quality and consistency of conduct and customer outcomes.
- Apply automation and AI to broaden the scope (e.g. greater sample sizes and coverage of controls or activities not currently assured) and improve the efficiency of control testing (e.g. generate a view on where testing should be targeted having regard to risk), supporting key business process automation and uplift divisional control environment in a sustainable manner.
- Improve focus and identify efficiency opportunities in high-volume controls assurance to enable greater focus on key risk areas or conduct of concern.
- Translate findings into insights for decision-making (e.g. focus areas for control testing, investment in automation, improvement in business controls).
- Assess the risk of key data and data sources not currently subject to control testing or quality assurance and scope or coverage limitations in existing testing and assurance activity, and practical opportunities to expand coverage, to enable informed decision making on the optimization of testing and assurance activity.
- Support and deliver Control Monitoring optimisation initiatives via automation or other means for the division, escalating to the Associate Director, Data & Analytics Control Testing as and when required.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Strong expertise in control testing methodologies, including oversight of testing quality and outcomes.
- Advanced capability in data analytics and automation tools to support scalable control testing.
- Ability to interpret large data sets, narrow focus on key areas of exposure, and identify patterns.
- Clear and effective communication skills to translate technical insights into actionable recommendations..
- Experience leading control testing or operational risk assurance activities.
- Strong attention to governance, documentation and evidence standards.
- Ability to partner effectively with business and risk teams to uplift control effectiveness.
- Strong planning and prioritisation skills to manage multiple testing activities and deadlines.
‘Good to have’ knowledge, skills, and experiences.
- Experience enhancing control testing coverage, efficiency or automation.
- Familiarity with governance, risk, and audit reporting requirements.
- Exposure to regulatory change implementation, remediation or control uplift programs.
- Understanding of business processes, products, and end-to-end customer journeys within the division.
- Experience with analytics tools, dashboards or automated testing solutions.
