About the Role
As a Risk Data Engineer within the Risk Metrics and Measurement team at ANZ, you will play a key role in delivering reliable, scalable data solutions that support risk management, regulatory reporting, and better risk decisions.
Working across NZ Risk, you will translate business needs into practical data solutions, simplify and modernise data processes, and increase automation. Your work will strengthen data quality and governance, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and enterprise standards.

What will your day look like?
As a Risk Data Engineer, you will:
- Leverage SAS 9.4, SAS Viya, and SQL to perform advanced data extraction, transformation, and analysis within large-scale data environments (e.g. Teradata, Oracle)
- Drive automation and optimization of processes, reducing manual effort and improving overall efficiency and reliability of data workflows
- Collaborate with risk stakeholders, analysts, and business teams to understand requirements and deliver scalable, business-aligned data solutions
- Ensure strong data governance, quality, and compliance, adhering to enterprise standards and regulatory frameworks for accurate and controlled data usage
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Strong hands-on experience in SAS 9.4 and SAS Viya
- 7 Plus years of experience in the industry
- Advanced proficiency in SQL and data warehousing concepts
- Experience working with Teradata or similar large-scale data platforms
- Sound understanding of data governance, data quality, and compliance frameworks, with experience in supporting risk data, regulatory reporting, and audit requirements
- Proven experience in automation, optimization, and end-to-end transformation of legacy data processes, including migration to modern platforms with a strong focus on efficiency, data integrity, reconciliation, and validation controls.
- Adequate understanding of cloud ecosystems (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Preferred experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) including modern data services
- Hands-on experience using JIRA.
- Sound understanding of version control and code repository tools such as GitHub or Bitbucket
- Strong stakeholder management skills with ability to work across global, cross-functional teams
- Exposure to banking or financial services risk domains (e.g. IRB, Finance, capital reporting, regulatory disclosures, etc)
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, transformation-driven environment
