About the Role

As an Observability Engineer in our Enterprise Service Operations you’ll play a key role in helping to Monitor the performance of all the critical applications, support and maintain the Monitoring and observability platform. This role manage the tribe backlog, working closely with others to prioritise work, manage interdependencies and distil features to epics. TPLs define what success looks like for the trisbe and then measure their progress against that. In some cases, this role will also manage a chapter of Product Owners.

What will your day look like?

As an Observability Engineer, you will: 

  • Collaborate across Technology teams to uplift and optimise the organisation’s monitoring maturity and utilisation.  
  • Support the development of bestinclass monitoring systems, observability practices, and tooling capabilities.  
  • Participate in—and when required, lead—sprints to deploy monitoring tools and services that provide realtime operational visibility for the Command Centre.   
  • Leverage Dynatrace Grail for advanced analytics, dashboards, anomaly detection, and custom extensions as part of the observability ecosystem.  
  • Build and optimise Synthetic Journeys, cloud integrations, and Dynatrace APIs to enhance automation, telemetry ingestion, and monitoring coverage.
  • Use scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Terraform) to deploy, manage, and scale monitoring infrastructure—including ActiveGates on AWS and GCP. 

What will you bring?

 To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Minimum 10 years overall experience with at least 6 years in Observability, APM, and monitoring technologies—specifically deploying, managing, and optimising Dynatrace
  • Dynatrace certifications are highly desirable.
  • DQL Proficiency: Experience writing DQL queries and using them within Notebooks, Dashboards, and Davis Anomaly Detectors.
  • Segments & Boundaries: Understanding of how these relate to Management Zones and Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC).
  • Custom Extensions: Ability to build custom extensions from scratch using YAML, or through the Grail Custom Extensions Creator app.
  • Cloud Integrations: Experience integrating Dynatrace with AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Synthetics: Familiarity with creating and configuring Synthetic Monitors and Synthetic Journeys.
  • Dynatrace API: Handson experience with Dynatrace REST APIs for automation and data workflows.
  • Platform Proficiency: Strong experience working on Windows, Solaris, and Linux (RHEL) environments.
  • Development Background: Exposure to technical infrastructure, application development, or support, with skills in Java, .NET, or Python preferred.
  • Modern Environments: Experience with containers, microservices, and modern distributed architectures.
  • Cloud & DevOps: Familiarity with AWS, GCP, Azure and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Scripting Languages: Experience with PowerShell, PowerShell Universal, or similar scripting technologies.
  • Deploying Dynatrace ActiveGates to AWS and GCP using Terraform.
  • Developing automation workflows equivalent to Monacostyle deployments in Terraform
