About the Role
The Head of Data Services NZ (India) will lead a large (~100) GCC based data services team, working in close partnership with New Zealand D&A leadership team. The role is accountable for the GCC team’s performance, people leadership and quality delivery outcomes, taking the GCC based team from “good” to “great.” A core measure of success will be achieving the full value of the offshore model—not just cost efficiency, but also enhanced capability, extended service coverage and access to a rich ecosystem of adjacent teams (e.g., Automation, GenAI, Australian Data team). The India location is positioned as a hub of excellence that provides more than cost efficiency — contributing innovation, best practices, and accelerators back into the wider data function.
The leader will ensure the offshore team is well-structured, highly engaged, and delivers high-quality work on time and within budget, while embedding a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What will your day look like?
- Lead and inspire a ~100-member India-based data team, fostering a high-performance, inclusive culture.
- Provide strong people leadership through coaching, career development, and wellbeing support.
- Ensure optimal team structure, skills mix, and succession planning aligned with future needs.
- Drive quality, timely, and accurate delivery in partnership with NZ leadership, meeting SLAs and KPIs.
- Embed disciplined, aligned ways of working and leverage time-zone advantages for extended coverage.
- Champion continuous improvement, innovation, and productivity uplift across the offshore function.
- Build strong, transparent relationships with NZ stakeholders, operating as one virtual team.
- Collaborate with adjacent teams (Automation, GenAI, Australian Data) to create enterprise-wide synergies.
- Oversee hiring, resource planning, budgeting, and risk management for the India-based operation.
- Ensure compliance with governance, financial controls, and enterprise security standards.
- Develop and execute a strategic vision that elevates the India team’s capability and impact.
- Deliver full offshore model value—cost efficiency, extended service hours, and innovation contribution.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Proven people leader with 20 + years of experience in data/technology domain, preferably 5+ years in Data Analytics leadership with experience of heading a large data analytics function..
- Excellent communicator, bridging cultural differences and fostering unity across global geographies.
- Collaborative style with ability to operate as part of a distributed, virtual leadership team.
- Deep experience in building, scaling, and running offshore teams.
- Strong delivery management discipline: planning, tracking, and ensuring quality outcomes.
- Skilled in financial management (budgets, headcounts).
- Track record of driving teams from “good to great” through transformation and continuous improvement.
- Ability to leverage ecosystems and partnerships, maximising the value of co-located and adjacent teams.
- Mindset of turning time-zone challenges into advantages, ensuring both coverage and continuity of service.
- Proven senior leadership experience of managing a large team and managing and developing other leaders: Ability to inspire, motivate and guide teams towards high performance within a geographically distributed setting.
