About the Role

 

As an Engineer in New Zealand Technology domain, and the purpose why this role exists.

  • Efficiently support the Unix VM both RHEL and Solaris and provide resolution for incidents and ensure high availability of infrastructure.     
  • Maintain and transform our infrastructure through adoption of new technologies and methodologies.
  • To add automation and IaC skills into the legacy Unix support roles.

What will your day look like?

 

This role is accountable for:

 

  • Supporting a RHEL and Solaris based infrastructure fleet comprised of multiple versions of Solaris, and RHEL VM’s and supporting systems.
  • Driving an automation first approach to the way the team works, including  server builds, application deployment, system reporting etc. Focus on IaC, with inbuilt audit/compliance features.
  • Respond to platform incidents and be available to assist with incidents on hosted workloads.
  • Ensuring support standards are high with minimal impacts to users and the business, within defined SLA timelines.
  • As this is a technology role this is highly dynamic role with new technologies and methodologies being adopted all the time.  It’s important that team members self-train on new technologies in additional to arranged education opportunities to maximise our effectiveness and functionality.

What will you bring?

 

‘Must have’ knowledge, skills and experiences:

  • Must have 8+years of relevant experience
  • The ‘must have’ knowledge, skill and experience (KSE) the role requires are:
  • Proficient technical subject matter expertise and Practical experience in the following technologies:  RHEL, Puppet, Red Hat Satellite, Ansible. 
  • Sound problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong automation and scripting experience (Python, YAML, Ruby, JavaScript, REST API’s, PHP).
  • Good understanding of CICD tooling/way of working, code repos, APIs interface concepts for connection to automation tools.

 

The ‘good to have’ knowledge, skill and experience (KSE) the role requires are:

  • Experience with AIX, Solaris 10 and 11 operating systems.
  • Understanding of disaster recovery procedures and testing at an enterprise level.
  • Experience as a technical support resource in a large enterprise environment (>1000 Servers).
  • Practical experience in the following technologies:  Solaris LDOMs, Solaris Zones, Splunk, automated testing, Active Directory integration.
  • Proficiency and experience with cloud technologies such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
  • Experience with Service Now.
  • Understanding of Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL or PostgreSQL.
