About the Role

 

As a Data Engineer within the Engineering, Tooling & Data Services team, you will support a broad spectrum of data‑related services across technology, including data analytics, data management, audit support, compliance, reporting, and risk management.


Your role will contribute to uplifting ANZ’s data governance capabilities and strengthening adherence to enterprise frameworks.

What will your day look like?

In this role, you will:

  • Support activities to ensure data‑related services comply with the ANZ Enterprise Governance Framework and the I.AM Framework.
  • Contribute to developing clear, practical guidelines that streamline processes while ensuring alignment with policies and standards.
  • Assist the Data Manager in cross‑domain working groups to uplift data governance maturity across the organisation.
  • Monitor the health and lifecycle of Critical Data Elements (CDEs).
  • Track, manage, and drive the timely resolution of Data Quality Issues (DQIs).
  • Support audit procedures, compliance assessments, and risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Partner with stakeholders to maintain transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in data governance

What will you bring?

  • 1–3 years’ experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Technology, or Risk.
  • Foundational understanding of data governance principles and data quality concepts.
  • Ability to analyse issues and translate requirements into practical solutions with guidance.
  • Curiosity for data and willingness to learn enterprise frameworks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience supporting stakeholder meetings and documenting outcomes.
  • Comfortable working in Agile environments.
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint, or similar collaboration tools.
  • Sound judgement and willingness to escalate risks appropriately.
  • SQL and basic Python scripting.
  • Exposure to data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, IBM Infosphere).
  • Basic experience with data quality reporting (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik).
  • Working knowledge of databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake, or Teradata.
  • Awareness of cloud platforms (Azure Data Factory, Databricks – advantageous).
