Mō te tūranga - About the role
As Senior Manager, Data Risk, you’ll play a critical leadership role within ANZ’s First Line of Defence, partnering closely with technology, data and business teams to manage data risks across complex, end‑to‑end value chains.
You’ll lead data risk assessments, support regulatory and policy change, and work with the business to design and embed sustainable controls into systems and processes. With a strong focus on data governance, data quality you’ll provide insight that strengthens decision‑making, improves control effectiveness, and supports safe, reliable use of data across the organisation.
This role acts as a trusted first line risk partner, delivering high‑quality specialist first line risk management and assurance, strengthening accountability, building capability, and uplifting risk and data culture across ANZ.

The Senior Manager, Data Risk position is a dynamic and impactful role with a broad range of responsibilities. Some of your day-to-day activities may include the below:
- Leading and managing data risk assessments across systems, processes and end‑to‑end value chains
- Partnering with business and technology teams to design, uplift and embed sustainable data controls
- Influencing the implementation and practical application of enterprise data risk management frameworks
- Strengthening data governance, including data quality, lineage, capture controls and accountability for data used in business decisions
- Working with data and technology teams to identify, triage and resolve data quality issues
- Supporting regulatory and policy change through impact assessments and business implementation
- Reviewing control design and effectiveness, identifying gaps and managing remediation activities
- Providing risk insights, thematic analysis and materials to support governance forums and senior management decisions
- Leveraging analytics, indicators and emerging trends to monitor risk and control effectiveness
- Acting as a trusted first line risk adviser, reinforcing ownership and accountability across the division
- Leading, coaching and developing team members while building capability and communities of practice

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Deep expertise in data risk management frameworks, standards and regulatory expectations
- Strong experience leading complex risk assessments, control design reviews and remediation in a financial services or regulated environment
- Well‑developed understanding of data governance, data quality measurement, data lineage and capture controls
- The ability to translate technical and regulatory requirements into clear, practical business‑embedded solutions
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to identify risk themes, emerging issues and provide actionable insight
- Confident stakeholder engagement and influencing skills as a trusted first line risk partner
- Clear and effective written and communication skills, including preparing materials for executive and governance forums
- Proven leadership capability, with experience coaching others and uplifting risk, data and security capability across the business
