Mō te tūranga - About the role
As a Senior Lawyer, you’ll join ANZ’s accomplished Legal team to provide high-quality, commercially focused legal advice to deliver ANZ’s strategy. This role will partner closely with stakeholders across ANZ Personal and the wider business to identify, manage and mitigate legal and regulatory risks. You’ll contribute to delivering strategic objectives by ensuring legal considerations are embedded in business decisions and customer solutions.
Working across a broad range of matters, you’ll build trusted relationships, provide pragmatic advice, and support a strong risk-aware culture across the organisation.

Ka aha tō rā e kite ai? - What will your day look like
You’ll provide timely, practical legal support across a range of initiatives, partnering with business and risk teams to enable sound decision-making and manage legal risk effectively.
- Provide clear, commercially focused legal advice to support business initiatives and manage risk
- Partner with stakeholders across product, risk and other business areas to identify and address legal issues early
- Support regulatory and policy requirements, ensuring alignment with legal obligations and internal standards
- Build and maintain strong relationships across ANZ, contributing to effective collaboration and outcomes
- Contribute to external stakeholder interactions where required, supporting ANZ’s interests
- Help promote a proactive, risk-aware culture through guidance and thought leadership
Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:
- At least 5 years’ post-qualification experience from a top-tier NZ law firm or large organisation, ideally with a focus on banking, financial services or another regulated industry
- Proven ability to provide pragmatic, commercially relevant legal advice in a complex environment
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels
- A curious and pragmatic problem-solving mindset, with the ability to make sound judgements and manage competing priorities
- A collaborative approach, with the ability to build strong relationships and contribute to an inclusive workplace culture
