As the Head of Risk Appetite and Stress Testing in Risk Management NZ, you’ll play a key role in leading a world class Risk Analytics function delivering services to ANZ NZ Business and Risk Management function. These services include Stress testing, Climate risk quantification, Expected credit loss and Risk Appetite services to ANZ NZ business. This role will shape and transform these critical risk capabilities whilst meeting internal and regulatory compliance obligations through the in collaboration with NZ businesses, NZ Risk, Group Risk and external regulators.

We need a talented leader to lead the function to a new height. You will lead a highly talented and analytical team based in NZ and India that produce important analysis for the bank and external stakeholders. The aspiration for the team is to be able to produce more insightful strategic analysis, produce it quicker to a better standard, whilst expanding into new areas such as climate risk.
Each day will be different – it will be dynamic, impactful and sometime challenging. This role combines technical credit risk outcomes, broader risk measurement, balancing stakeholders needs whilst transforming how we operate. The role will be accountable for the outcomes and processes as part of ANZ’’s capital management, Risk management and prudential compliance frameworks.
As the Head of Risk Appetite and Stress Testing, you will:
- Lead a multi-location team producing Risk Appetite statements, solvency stress testing, climate risk analysis, and credit provisioning settings.
- Leverage the insight from the above to improve Risk, customer, and shareholder outcomes. This will involve engaging with senior stakeholder groups such as the CFO, CRO, NZ Treasurer and Board to unpack the analysis, agree key settings and actions to mitigate risk. Simplify complex matters and address the “so what”.
- Lead, shape and execute complex work plans to deliver for multiple stakeholder groups. These customers are often senior stakeholder, regulators, external audit or Group, and therefore require robust delivery mechanisms.
- Deliver new and insightful analytics for customer, risk and shareholder benefits. This includes using advanced methodologies such as ML/ AI.
- Lead the team to transform these processes by re-engineering, automating and collaborating with Group and NZ on the business transformation activities.
- Given how important this information is to stakeholders, it must be accurate. Therefore, you will ensure that there is a robust control environment which delivers to all expectations and policy requirements (RBNZ BPR’s, I AM Framework, IFRS9 and others)

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Strong knowledge of processes and analytical solutions landscape across credit portfolios
- Excellent delivery, planning and execution. Proven ability to deliver in a fast paced, senior stakeholder, multi deliverable environment.
- Strong numerical and analytical background, preferably with strong knowledge of IFRS9/Basel/Stress testing/APRA/RBNZ capital frameworks
- Able to build strong, open, collaborative working relationships with senior stakeholders, regulators and third parties
- Excellent people leadership - Proven ability to build, lead, develop and engage a high performing team exhibiting ANZ behaviours across multiple geographies
- Proven ability to design, shape and delivering transformation of analytical capabilities and teams through the introduction of new processes, data and operating models.
- Proactive, adaptable whilst being comfortable with ambiguity and solving complex problems. The role and activity of the team is constantly changing.
