Mō te tūranga - About the role


This role focuses on uplifting engineering excellence across the department by enabling modern automation, CI/CD, and secure delivery practices. Working within a specialized squad, the Engineer helps Data Engineering teams adopt reliable “golden‑path” workflows that make delivery consistent, scalable, and secure. The role ensures strong DevSecOps foundations by embedding best practices into everyday engineering processes.

In addition, the role supports Gen AI adoption by shaping practical use cases and running proofs of concept. It helps teams safely integrate AI‑assisted coding, testing, and reviews into the software development lifecycle, improving productivity while maintaining quality, security, and governance standards.

Role Location: Auckland or Wellington
Role Type: 12-months Secondment/Fixed term
Hours: Standard, Mon to Fri 37.5hrs

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting teams to adopt modern CI/CD, testing, and release practices
  • Improving automation maturity and tracking outcomes like deployment frequency and recovery time
  • Building and maintaining “golden‑path” pipelines, templates, and starter kits
  • Ensuring pipelines include secure defaults, quality checks, and guardrails
  • Embedding DevSecOps practices such as secrets scanning and policy as code
  • Automating compliance and audit evidence through delivery pipelines
  • Promoting production‑ready practices like trunk‑based development and test automation
  • Enabling safe releases using feature flags, canary or blue‑green deployments, and rollbacks
  • Partnering with platform and SRE teams to improve reliability and observability
  • Leading GenAI adoption by shaping use cases and running proofs of concept
  • Evaluating and enabling safe AI‑assisted coding, testing, and code review within the SDLC

Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?


To thrive and excel in this role, you should ideally possess the following:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift.
  • Understanding of environment management, identity and access management (IAM), and networking fundamentals.
  • Software engineering experience with strong proficiency in Python.
  • Practical understanding of GenAI concepts including LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, agentic patterns, and evaluation techniques.
  • Understanding on safe use of AI considering Data Privacy, guardrails, and data governance principles.
  • Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines on platforms such as GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code and automated delivery workflows.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
