Mō te tūranga - About the role

 

As an ESG Advisory Lead in our Communications & Public Affairs division, you will play a key role in strengthening ANZ’s ESG and climate change capability. This is a senior role, reporting to ANZ’s Head of ESG and based in the Corporate Affairs team. You will have the opportunity to influence change at Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest bank, working alongside a team of talented, dedicated professionals. You will develop and implement plans and projects that support ANZ’s climate transition strategy, ensuring alignment with our commitment to a low-emissions and climate-resilient economy.

 

With increasing expectations from customers, investors, and regulators regarding ESG performance and climate action, this role will help shape ANZ’s approach to managing ESG issues. You will contribute to ANZ’s Board-approved ESG Framework, driving meaningful progress on our sustainability agenda.

Ka aha tō rā e kite ai? - What will your day look like

 

As an ESG Advisory Lead, the key responsibilities will include the following:

 

  • Provide subject matter expertise on relevant social and environmental issues (including climate change) that affects ANZ’s business and customers, such as public policy, regulation and emerging community expectations
  • Support the improvement of ESG understanding and practice across the Bank, including frontline Business Units; leading or contributing to the development of tools, practices and processes that enhance our ability to understand, measure and manage our ESG risks and impacts
  • Contribute technical expertise and insights to the setting and ongoing review of ESG and climate-related targets and objectives for ANZ; support the business to embed the plans and activities needed to ensure we meet our ESG objectives
  • Regularly manage the reviews of ESG policies, standards and processes; supporting their implementation via associated tools and training, including identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness and ease of use of social and environmental screening.

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

 

  • Strong understanding of relevant ESG issues in a business context, and their potential impact on ANZ and our customers
  • Understanding and experience of globally recognised climate and ESG policy, conventions, frameworks and standards including science-based targets, UN Sustainable Development Goals
  • Broad understanding of the inter-connection of environment and social issues within Aotearoa New Zealand including the relevance of a Te Ao Māori perspective
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills; ability to work with complex information and recommend approach to achieve desired outcome
  • Strong relationship and networking skills to engage internal and external stakeholders and influence for desired outcomes
  • Excellent strategic communication and positioning skills to digest, connect and distil information, issues and initiatives into compelling propositions for internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent and effective management skills, the ability to prioritise tasks and to work under pressure within various constraints
  • Proactive thinker with sense of curiosity, able to anticipate and identify emerging trends which may become more important for the bank
