Mō te tūranga - About the role
Our team of trusted legal specialists work with teams across ANZ New Zealand, providing guidance on personal, business and institutional banking; our funds management business; operations; regulation; and finance. Our lawyers help our business interpret laws and regulation relevant to ANZ New Zealand, and make sure our customers can understand their banking in plain English.
As a Corporate Counsel in ANZ’s Legal function, you will be instrumental in delivering essential legal support to drive the business forward, particularly in the realms of digital channels, technology innovation, data collection, and governance. You will provide expert legal advice, meticulously assess and mitigate legal risks, and ensure regulation compliance.

As a Corporate Counsel, you will:

Deliver expert legal advice that minimises risks, ensures robust governance and aligns with ANZ's strategic goals, all while fostering digital innovation

Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across ANZ, including other lawyers, Privacy Compliance, Technology, Data and Marketing teams.

Provide clear, concise and practical legal guidance that empowers ANZ to make informed risk assessments.

Partner with different parts of the business to provide legal support and advice on digital channels and data usage.

Contribute to critical projects and initiatives such as Open Banking, privacy law advancements, and technological innovations
Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

A minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in a legal environment working with privacy, data and technology services

Strong interpersonal skills, with the confidence to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels including senior management

Ability to provide clear, commercially relevant, and practical legal advice

Excellent written and verbal communication, workflow management, and organisation skills
-
A proactive mindset, always looking for innovative solutions and opportunities to enhance our legal strategies

A proven capacity to work under pressure in a fast-paced and evolving environment, with the ability to reprioritise tasks to meet evolving demands
