Mō te tūranga - About the role

 

As a Chapter Lead, you will be a subject matter expert the field of Business Intelligence and Analytics and part of the wider Data & Analytics Centre of Excellence that supports all Business Units within ANZ NZ. You will grow and develop the capability of others in your discipline and will have direct people leadership responsibility for up to 10-chapter members.

 

You will also contribute to the delivery of data priorities, dedicating ~20-30% of your time to squad work. This may include providing SME input, reviewing design decisions, and coaching squad members to resolve challenges, as well as more “hands on” complex business analysis, ad-hoc data analysis, descriptive and diagnostic analytics, report/dashboard development or data visualisation and data story telling.

As a Chapter Lead - Business Intelligence, you will:

 

  • Owning the frameworks, standards, and practices for chapter members to follow in their squad work (e.g. requirements templates, wireframes, testing standards, peer reviews).
  • Where required, working with the Principal Engineer and other Chapter Leads to develop templates, guidelines, frameworks, and other such materials to help promote the adoption of and adherence to best practice in your discipline.
  • Providing thought leadership and coaching others in leading best-practice approaches.
  • Contributing to project deliverables, working across squads to provide SME input and quality assurance (at around ~20-30% of your capacity).
  • Acting as an escalation point for complex or challenging data questions relating to your discipline.
  • Establishing a strong community and positive workplace culture that promotes learning and continuous improvement.
  • Identifying new or innovative ways of delivering work in your discipline (e.g., through automation, the use of AI tools or simplification).
  • People Management accountabilities of Chapter members, this includes providing feedback, support, and guidance, proactively managing underperformance, applying organisation policy and maintaining accurate employee people data in HR systems.
  • Partnering with Platform Owners and Product Owners to understand and plan for chapter capability needs and align chapter members to squads based on their skill set and ambitions.

Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?


To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

 

  • Deep technical expertise within your discipline (data, report and dashboard development, AI, analytics)
  • Proven people leadership experience, including coaching, team building and leading through change.
  • Experience line‑managing teams of up to 10 direct reports.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and their application to data engineering and BI delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with senior and technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and propose alternative, practical solutions.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Analytics, Business Intelligence or Technology roles.
  • Hands‑on experience with BI and analytics tools such as Tableau, SAS, Python, SQL and AWS’s data stack.
  • Strong understanding of the full ETL development lifecycle.
  • Solid expertise in data modelling techniques, including Kimball methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate data and analytics solution designs into successful, real‑world implementations.
