Mō te tūranga - About the role

As the AML & Fraud Lead, you will lead a small team delivering oversight and review and challenge into ANZ’s AML/CFT and Fraud Risk environment, strengthening ANZ’s risk awareness and practices across the business. The role provides expert guidance on policies, standards, controls and complex compliance matters, while engaging with industry, regulators and law enforcement. Operating within ANZ New Zealand, ANZ Group and external regulatory requirements, you will help strengthen the Financial Crime function through balanced, commercially sound and prudent risk management.

The AML & Fraud Lead position is a dynamic and impactful role with a broad range of responsibilities. Some of your day-to-day activities may include the below:

 

  • Lead and inspire a small specialist team, providing high‑impact AML/CFT and Fraud Risk review and challenge activities across ANZ New Zealand.
  • Conduct effective review and challenge activities to assess the adequacy, effectiveness, and compliance of controls, processes, and risk management practices.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and insightful reporting for senior management to support informed decision‑making and oversight.
  • Act as a trusted adviser to the business, helping teams navigate complex financial crime risks with confidence and commercial pragmatism.
  • Shape and enhance financial crime frameworks, identifying opportunities to uplift controls, tools and ways of working.
  • Partner closely with Group, Line 1 and project teams to design and embed consistent, effective financial crime requirements.
  • Represent ANZ externally, building strong relationships with regulators, law enforcement and industry peers, and contributing to key forums.
  • Influence policy and regulatory outcomes through expert interpretation, thought leadership and support to senior risk and Financial Crime leaders.
