Mō te tūranga - About the role

The Category Manager for IT Professional Services, as part of the NZ & Pacific Procurement team, will lead the development and execution of category strategies, ensuring alignment with business objectives and long-term goals. Reporting into the Technology Procurement Portfolio Lead, this role is responsible for:

 

  • Owning and leading the IT Professional Services category for New Zealand, covering IT consulting, system integrations, managed services, contingent labour, and various specialist advisory services.
  • Driving value, resilience and regulatory compliance across a complex, high-risk supplier ecosystem while enabling ANZ New Zealand’s technology and transformation agenda.

 

Role Location: Auckland or Wellington

Role Type: Permanent

Hours: Standard, Monday to Friday 37.5 hrs

The Category Manager for IT Professional Services is critical to making this happen and key responsibilities of the role will include the following:

 

  • Lead the development and execution of category strategies, ensuring alignment with business needs and objectives.
  • Lead and execute end-to-end sourcing activities (strategic and tactical) for the IT Professional Services category and its sub-categories, including contract drafting, negotiation, and finalization.
  • Collaborate with the business, Procurement Legal, and other stakeholders to ensure contract compliance with legal, risk management, and regulatory requirements.
  • Use data-driven insights on spend patterns, market trends, and supplier capabilities/performance to inform decisions and drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage risks across technology procurement, including commercial, contractual, operational, financial, and regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with stakeholders and commercial managers to build and maintain relationships with strategic suppliers to ensure reliable and sustainable partnerships. 
  • Ensure alignment of category strategy with broader Group wide category strategy, except where regional variations are required.
  • Provide advisory and guidance to internal stakeholders and collaborate across regions (AUS, NZ, Pacific, APEA) to deliver business plans and maintain compliance.

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

 

  • Ability to develop and execute category strategies for IT Professional Services arrangements, along with high aptitude in identifying and solving for risks as well as creating good commercial outcomes in this category.
  • Strong negotiation skills to secure favourable terms with technology suppliers and manage complex contracts effectively.
  • Commercial and financial acumen to evaluate cost models, optimise spend, and support strategic decision-making.
  • Analytical capability to interpret market trends, supplier performance, and data insights to shape strategies that drive innovation and efficiency.
  • Knowledge of sourcing processes, risk management, and regulatory compliance within IT procurement.
  • Leadership and problem-solving skills to manage complex technology categories and build strong stakeholder and supplier relationships.
