Mō te tūranga - About the role
As a Site Reliability Engineer within the Technology team, you will play a key role in maintaining the health of technology services across a broad range of production and robust backup workloads.
The role includes a mix of responsibilities such as production stability, platform releases, quality assurance, and overall ecosystem health (e.g., closing vulnerabilities, meeting TCLs, environment refreshes, patching, and version maintenance). You will also be responsible for developing and implementing technical changes as required.

Ka aha tō rā e kite ai? - What will your day look like
As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Supporting the production stability of the C1 global Sky service (up to 50% of capacity) as part of a global operating model
- Maintaining the stability of Insto Tech NZ cloud applications (e.g., Sky Robust Backup, Gabor, and BS11 Applications), ensuring compliance with all NZ Technology policies, procedures, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Collaborating with the Chapter and delivery partners (e.g., Institutional Technology, Managed Service Providers, Technology Operations) to promote knowledge sharing and best practices across Institutional NZ cloud workloads
- Identifying and developing automation solutions to reduce manual intervention and prevent recurring issues
- Proactively engaging with business and technology stakeholders for guidance and support as needed
Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?
To grow and succeed in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- A solid understanding of Software Engineering and Computer Science principles, coupled with strong programming and scripting fundamentals in two or more core languages (e.g., HCL, Python, Powershell, bash, ruby, go, JavaScript, etc.)
- Experience developing and/or supporting the build and maintenance of complex systems
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and automation to improve consistency and reduce manual effort
- The ability to explain and solve technical problems, and effectively communicate solutions and required actions to team members and technical teams, providing clear and concise outputs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities
- Hands-on experience managing incidents across production environments, including triage, impact assessment, and prioritisation
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines to enable faster, reliable, and repeatable deployments
- A willingness to learn how to produce and critique technical designs and specifications
- The ability to work with a reasonable level of autonomy
- Curiosity and eagerness to expand knowledge by learning new technologies and applying them to deliver value
- An understanding of multi-team Agile delivery approaches
- Experience in building and maintaining cloud-hosted applications; AWS experience is preferred
