Mō te tūranga - About the role
As a Senior Manager, Data & AI Risk, you'll play a key role within ANZ's First Line of Defence, partnering with technology, data, AI and business teams to help ANZ safely and responsibly realise the value of data and emerging AI capabilities. You'll support the management of data and AI risks across the organisation while enabling innovation and strong customer outcomes.
This role exists to strengthen how data and AI are governed, protected, developed and used by embedding effective risk management practices, controls and responsible governance into business processes, systems and AI-enabled solutions. You'll provide expert guidance on data and AI risk, support regulatory and policy change, and help ensure data and AI are used safely, ethically, reliably and in line with organisational expectations.
Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you'll uplift data and AI risk capability, enhance decision-making through quality insights, and drive the adoption of robust governance and control frameworks. You'll also support the responsible adoption of AI, helping shape how emerging AI risks are identified, assessed and managed in a rapidly evolving environment. You'll contribute to a strong and sustainable risk culture across ANZ, helping the organisation realise the value of data and AI while managing risk appropriately and maintaining customer, regulatory and stakeholder trust.

Ka aha tō rā e kite ai? - What will your day look like?
You'll lead and embed data and AI risk practices across the organisation, working with business, technology and AI teams to uplift controls, improve data quality, strengthen AI governance, and ensure alignment with regulatory and enterprise expectations.
- Lead data and AI risk assessments across systems, models, processes and end-to-end value chains, helping ensure AI-enabled solutions are delivered safely and responsibly.
- Partner with stakeholders to design, implement and uplift sustainable data, AI and risk controls, governance frameworks, and responsible AI practices.
- Provide risk insights, thematic analysis and meaningful reporting to inform decision-making and support governance forums.
- Support regulatory and policy change through impact assessments, control reviews and implementation guidance across data and AI domains.
- Identify and resolve data quality, model risk and control issues in collaboration with data, AI, technology and business teams.
- Oversee the governance of AI use cases, ensuring they are developed, deployed and monitored in line with organisational standards and regulatory expectations.
- Drive the adoption of effective controls for data management, AI lifecycle management, model transparency, monitoring and ongoing risk management.
- Lead and develop team capability, fostering a strong risk, data and AI culture across the business.
Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you’ll ideally bring:
- Experience in data risk, AI risk, operational risk, technology risk, or related disciplines within a complex or regulated environment.
- Strong understanding of data and AI governance, risk management and control frameworks, including areas such as data quality, lineage, model lifecycle management and regulatory expectations.
- Proven ability to lead risk assessments, control design, assurance activities and remediation programmes across data and AI domains.
- Understanding of emerging AI opportunities and risks, including responsible AI practices, model risk, bias, transparency, explainability and evolving regulatory expectations.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify insights, trends, control gaps and opportunities for improvement from complex data and risk information.
- Effective stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and build trusted relationships across business, technology, data and AI teams.
- Experience translating complex data and AI concepts into practical risk outcomes and business-focused recommendations.
- A collaborative leadership style, with the ability to develop diverse talent, uplift organisational capability, and foster an inclusive and high-performing risk culture.
