Mō te tūranga - About the role

 

As Senior Manager Compliance Risk, you’ll play a critical leadership role within ANZ’s First Line of Defence, partnering closely with business leaders to identify, assess and manage compliance risks across endtoend value chains. 

 

With a strong focus on compliance and prudential risk, you'll provide trusted advice and challenge, influence key decisions, and help shape sustainable risk outcomes across the business. You'll bring sound judgement, critical thinking and commercial acumen to navigate complex regulatory environments, ensuring regulatory obligations are understood, embedded and effectively managed. 

 

This role requires more than technical expertise. We're looking for a leader who can influence senior stakeholders, challenge constructively, build capability in others and drive a strong risk culture through thought leadership, coaching and collaboration. 

 

You'll operate at the intersection of strategy, regulation and practical delivery, helping ANZ meet its regulatory obligations while supporting better customer, business and risk outcomes.

You'll play a key role in helping the business manage compliance and prudential risk by providing trusted advice, challenge and leadership across complex regulatory environments. 

 

As a Senior Manager Compliance Risk, you will: 

 

  • Lead complex compliance and prudential risk assessments, identifying emerging risks, control weaknesses and opportunities to strengthen risk management practices. 
  • Partner with senior stakeholders to provide trusted advice, thought leadership and constructive challenge, influencing key decisions on compliance and prudential risk matters. 
  • Drive the design, review and uplift of controls, monitoring activities and remediation initiatives, ensuring regulatory obligations are effectively embedded and managed. 
  • Influence governance and business decision-making through the delivery of risk insights, recommendations and pragmatic risk-based solutions. 
  • Support the implementation of regulatory and policy change, helping the business understand impacts and embed sustainable outcomes. 
  • Lead, coach and develop team members while building organisational capability and fostering a culture of accountability, curiosity and critical thinking.

To grow and be successful in this role, you’ll bring: 

 

  • Strong compliance risk management experience within financial services, including significant experience interpreting and applying prudential regulatory obligations and frameworks. 
  • Experience leading complex risk assessments, control reviews, remediation activities and regulatory change initiatives across large and complex environments.  
  • Strong critical thinking and judgement, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, challenge assumptions and provide pragmatic, risk-based recommendations on complex issues.  
  • Proven ability to influence, challenge and build credibility with senior stakeholders, driving accountability and better risk outcomes.  
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, including coaching and developing high-performing teams and building organisational capability.  
  • The ability to lead the development of an inclusive workplace culture and engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
